Automotive Mechanical Design - Emphasis
This program is the perfect choice for students whose career plans are to work in automotive corporate or dealer technical positions. An emphasis area within our 4-year Automotive Technology program, the Technical program focuses on the advanced automotive technical areas of the automotive industry.

Pittsburg State University's Department of Chemistry prepares students for careers in science, chemical engineering, pharmacy, chemistry teaching, pre-engineering, and other university programs that require rigorous training in chemistry. It offers eight Bachelor of Science Degrees, two Master of Science Degrees, and one minor.

Biochemistry - Emphasis
Biochemistry is the field of science resulting from the overlap of biology and chemistry. Biochemists explore the reactions, architecture, and role of biological molecules within a living system. To prepare students for careers in biochemistry, the Department of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry and Emphasis in Biochemistry.

The Department of Physics at Pittsburg State University was founded in 1962 and has been dedicated to the outstanding teaching of undergraduate and graduate physics students ever since. Our faculty members are trained in a wide variety of physics-related fields and have industrial and research laboratory experience. The Department of Accounting & Computer Information Systems offers baccalaureate and masters degree programs. Baccalaureate programs are offered in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. Minors are offered in Accounting, Computing, Fraud Examination, and Internal Auditing. A graduate program is available leading to the Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Accounting.

Accounting

A major in Accounting will prepare students to review, analyze, and interpret financial statements, cash flows, and give financial advice. Students will also learn to review financial statements from others.

The Department of Engineering Technology offers a Master of Engineering Technology degree program. Within the program, students may choose to have no emphasis or may select from five different emphasis areas, listed below. This program offers a professional multi-disciplinary team and project-oriented approach to students looking to expand their knowledge in a specific technical specialty. This degree is intended to be a terminal professional degree (highest degree in the field).

The School of Construction offers a comprehensive sequence of courses in Environmental and Safety Management. This broad-based program exposes students to several aspects of environmental and workplace safety.

Environmental and Safety Management program is on the list of national board-approved programs. A student earning an environmental and safety management degree from a board-approved institution is automatically qualified for the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) credential offered by the ISHM.

The Department of Psychology and Counseling offers a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Psychology. Within the program, students will select from two different emphasis areas, General or Clinical.

The Clinical emphasis is designed for students who wish to pursue master’s level licensure in psychology or counseling and provide direct clinical service to individuals with psychological disorders. Students who earn the degree, complete post-degree supervision, and pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology are eligible for designation as Licensed Clinical Psychotherapists in Kansas. The program includes a 750 clock hour practicum and internship sequence. The program meets educational requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor in most states, including Missouri, but requirements vary by state. Additional post-degree supervision and national examination are required for licensure as a professional counselor and also varies by state.

The Department of Music offers a Master of Music degree, with a variety of emphasis areas, including performance, conducting, and music education. Within the area of conducting, students may select an instrumental (wind or orchestral) emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.

Awards for full-time graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these positions will take active leadership roles in the department's ensembles, teaching and accompanying private lessons, and/or serving as an assistant to the ensemble director.

Our geography students acquire superior skills in critical thinking and analysis, dynamic communication, computer usage, and analysis in a number of software areas. We strive to keep students on the cutting edge of technology. These technological skills, critical thinking skills, and the overall applied nature of a geography education provide students with abilities that are in demand at public and private agencies. Students also gain the expert knowledge and training they need to pursue admission to graduate programs, if that is part of their career plan.

The Geographic Information Systems degree emphasis (GIS) combines computer-based technological application, data management, modeling, and statistical analysis with the explanatory powers of maps, spatial distribution, and digital display. GIS skills are highly desirable for many types of employment, including community planning, environmental planning, and environmental management.
