Asian Studies (BA) aims to understand Asia in a dynamic global context. Our bachelor’s degree program draws principally from the natural sciences, providing students with a rigorous curriculum and training in both field and laboratory techniques. Graduates are prepared for a broad range of opportunities, from serving as scientists, pursuing environmental policy and advocacy, or continuing their education.

Global pandemics, environmental degradation—public health professionals have never been more essential to addressing the challenges the world faces. Focused on health equity, our BA prepares students for a career in the social and community aspects of public health. Our literature BA program offers four tracks: literary studies, cinema studies, transcultural studies, and creative writing. The Religious Studies (BA) major at American University prepares students for careers across diverse fields by exploring how religion informs, influences, and directs social action and thought. Because “religion” pervades all aspects of life, our major allows students to focus on specific areas of interest, grounding religion in an historical and pluralistic framework while also bringing the topic into the modern world, recognizing how religion continues to shape politics, international relations, law, education, and economics.
