The employment world for chemical professionals can be divided into five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship, according to the American Chemical Society. There are many job titles associated with each of these sectors, such as analytical chemist, chemistry teacher, forensic scientist, geochemist, hazardous waste chemist, materials scientist and many more.

Maybe your passion is making that next big scientific discovery, or protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from AUM’s College of Sciences provides an excellent background for many different careers, prepares you for graduate school, or helps pave the way toward seeking admission to medical school or other professional health degree programs. With its low student-professor ratio, AUM offers you plenty of opportunities to strap on your goggles and join your professors in hands-on research. Choose from three concentrations: Chemistry, Professional Chemistry, and Health Sciences Chemistry.

Environmental scientists use their knowledge of earth’s systems to protect the environment and human health. They do this by cleaning up contaminated areas, making policy recommendations, or working with industry to reduce pollution and waste. Soil and plant scientists, and ecologists often work in remediation efforts, for a sanitation company, in manufacturing, at a university, or for a not-for-profit organization. Other environmental scientists are engaged in environmental policy, planning, and management for local governments, performing research-intensive work. Some professionals in this field have careers at the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Park Service, the United States Geological Survey and other agencies.

Environmental scientists are problem solvers. They research environmental and health problems to determine their causes and come up with solutions. They also use what they learn to make recommendations and develop strategies for managing environmental problems. From wading through swamps studying the impact of encroaching human populations on endangered species, to monitoring pollution levels in lakes and rivers, graduates of AUM’s Environmental Science program get the training needed for a fascinating and rewarding career.

The Environmental Health and Toxicology concentration in the Environmental Science bachelor’s degree program prepares students to look at their environment critically and assess how changes to their environment can affect their health and the health of their environment

To meet the needs of today’s organizations — and ensure that its business school students graduate with a set of skills that will set them apart in the marketplace — the College of Business designed its Entrepreneurship program to challenge students in a new way and inspire creative thinking. Our faculty – many of them successful practitioners in their field – deliver hands-on instruction in small-class environments.

The BSBA in Entrepreneurships prepare graduates to:

• Develop an effective, innovative business plan
• Identify and acquire the resources needed for the creation and implementation of a new venture, including financial, human, and managerial resources
• Understand risk and its effect on new ventures and analyze financial data to support business decisions and assessment of business strategies
• Identify, analyze, and understand potential market behaviors that would enhance value creation and profitability
• Lead the entrepreneurial process, from idea generation to the commercialization and implementation of the new business venture

The importance of marketing is amplified by the fact that marketing activities consti­tute one-half of the total cost of an average product and that a marketing orientation is linked with the purpose of any business or organization; that is, serving customer needs. The program of study in marketing provides the knowledge students need to successfully create customer value in a dynamic environment. Creating customer value requires a balance between thinking logically and creatively, and the marketing special­ization challenges students to do both. Students also have opportunities to develop interpersonal and communication capabilities, and valuable skills in demand by local, national and international employers.

Galileo called mathematics the language of the universe. Understanding that language opens up a wide range of rewarding careers. Whether your interests run to applied or theoretical math, at AUM you’ll get the skills and knowledge you need to put math to work in the real world.

Mathematics Education, a joint program with the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology for students who want to teach in secondary schools.

A degree in Economics from AUM provides students with analytical tools and practical skills to succeed in business, finance and government. This is achieved by offering a mix of theoretical and applied courses in economics, the function of markets around the world and optimal criteria for decision-making.

The AUM Theatre program’s strength is preparing emerging artists for careers in production as performers, directors, designers, technicians, stage managers and more.

You’ll learn through faculty coaching and practical experience. At AUM, as you learn about all aspects of production, you’ll also cultivate valuable traits that will serve you well– communication, leadership, confidence, self-discipline, work ethic, dedication, creativity, and teamwork.

Students in the Theatre option of the Communication and Theatre department put classroom training and skills to work in every aspect of the department’s mainstage theatre lab productions. This award-winning program participates in and provides leadership for state, regional and national theatre organizations such as the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Southeastern Theatre Conference, United States Institute of Theatre Technology and the Alabama Conference of Theatre.

The Kinesiology programs at Auburn University at Montgomery provide unique opportunities for individuals who want to work in a fast-paced, sport setting.

Physical Education (P-12)
The undergraduate Physical Education Teacher certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting.  Candidates must meet Auburn University at Montgomery and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements. An internship is required.

As an AUM history major, you’ll cultivate a range of skills suitable for a variety of careers. You will also learn from one of the most academically accomplished history faculties in the Southeast; every full-time faculty member has published at least one book in his or her field, and all are active in the profession.
