As an AUM history major, you’ll cultivate a range of skills suitable for a variety of careers. You will also learn from one of the most academically accomplished history faculties in the Southeast; every full-time faculty member has published at least one book in his or her field, and all are active in the profession.

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a distinctive degree plan designed to serve students with unique needs or academic interests. The flexibility of the program makes it ideal for students returning to the university to complete a degree or those who have completed significant credit hours at another institution, military service school, or in another degree plan. It is also a perfect fit for students who want to create an individually-tailored course of studies.

At the most basic level of ability, managers must understand the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, IT, economics, operations, and human resource management. In later stages of a manager’s development into the executive ranks, he or she needs to understand how organizational processes interrelate and occur within a context. Executives must be able to make sense of societal changes, political drivers, social values, global interaction, and technological change.

Every organization needs educated, skilled leaders who can build effective teams and shepherd projects to completion. AUM’s Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is a solid foundation for a life-long career in business. You’ll learn about organizational behavior and develop the interpersonal and decision-making skills that will allow you to flourish in a variety of business environments. With your degree, you’ll be prepared to work for businesses of all sizes, from small local firms to large multinational organizations. Internships will give you vital real-world experience.

Serve your community by keeping it safe. Now more than ever before, the world needs committed and capable criminal justice personnel. With a bachelor’s degree from AUM’s Criminal Justice program, you’ll be qualified for a variety of criminal justice jobs at the local, state, and federal level. You’ll take at least one course from each of the specialization options: law enforcement, corrections, juvenile justice and security administration. This major provides broad academic preparation in both general education and advanced course work of a specialized nature in either the criminal justice track or the legal studies track. Students in this program get hands-on experience during their internship.

The program is affiliated with the National Society for Human Resources Management and has a curriculum that presents state-of-the-art practices in human resources. Students are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to be competitive in this constantly changing field.

The six-course HRM core requires work in personnel management, selection, labor relations, compensation, training, and labor law. Beyond the six-required HRM courses, students can tailor their program with the choice of two HRSM elective courses.

At AUM, you’ll develop practical skills in leadership, conflict resolution, problem-solving, testing and assessment and people management. You’ll learn about compensation, health and safety, and labor law as you also become skilled at hiring the right people and keeping your hires happy and productive. Hands-on internships will give you experience that will position you for full-time employment after graduation.

Sport Management
The undergraduate Sport Management program at AUM will assist students in preparing for sport-related careers.  A combination of sport related coursework and business class work will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the sport industry.  The courses focus on the uniqueness of sports in areas such as marketing, facility management, risk management and legal issues, leadership, ethics, etc.  An internship is required.

A teacher’s influence can last a lifetime. Positively shape the lives of young people with a career in the classroom. Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

The AUM Political Science major offers a variety of courses exploring the multiple and various dimensions of politics. Our courses provide an understanding of the forces that shape the lives of citizens in the United States and around the world.

• In courses on American politics, students learn about the complex relationship among Congress, the presidency, and other political institutions; the impact of money on campaigns and elections, and the role of race in politics.
• In international relations courses, students study the implications of an international environment without a supranational government and how that environment leads countries to be the most important entities in world politics and, in turn, makes the international relations realm of power politics and cooperation more difficult to achieve.
• In comparative politics courses, students explore the factors that make democracy more or less likely, how the transition to democracy can create instabilities, and how differences in countries’ electoral systems can lead to government instability.
• In public administration courses, students examine the relationship among political actors, institutions, and bureaucratic organizations to understand the issues related to effective governance.

AUM’s BSBA in Finance offers a mix of applied and theoretical courses with an emphasis on applying practical knowledge and skills in the workplace. Through the successful completion of courses in the Finance core, you will garner the terminology, tools and skills necessary for a career in the financial services industry or functional area of financial management, as well as for graduate study. The program requires completion of a broad core of lower division courses that comprise the AUM core curriculum and an upper division business core that emphasizes a common body of knowledge and tools underlying the successful practice of business administration.

In this program you’ll learn to determine the value of businesses, help new businesses find the capital they need to succeed or assist a young couple in planning for a comfortable retirement. You’ll get a solid foundation in financial institutions, financial planning, and financial management before choosing to concentrate in one of these areas or select advanced courses in finance, accounting or economics.
