The employment world for chemical professionals can be divided into five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship, according to the American Chemical Society. There are many job titles associated with each of these sectors, such as analytical chemist, chemistry teacher, forensic scientist, geochemist, hazardous waste chemist, materials scientist and many more.

Maybe your passion is making that next big scientific discovery, or protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from AUM’s College of Sciences provides an excellent background for many different careers, prepares you for graduate school, or helps pave the way toward seeking admission to medical school or other professional health degree programs. With its low student-professor ratio, AUM offers you plenty of opportunities to strap on your goggles and join your professors in hands-on research. Choose from three concentrations: Chemistry, Professional Chemistry, and Health Sciences Chemistry.

The Kinesiology programs at Auburn University at Montgomery provide unique opportunities for individuals who want to work in a fast-paced, sport setting. A variety of programs are offered, including Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Sport Management.

As one of the concentrations in the Sociology bachelors’ degree program, the Pre-Social Work program provides an academic foundation for a career in social work. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) defines social work as

“The professional activity of helping individuals, families, groups or communities enhance or restore their capacity for social functioning or creating societal conditions favorable to that goal.” 

Social workers with a bachelor’s degree meet this goal by serving the community in a number of ways, including helping people cope with life challenges such as adopting a child or being diagnosed with a terminal illness. They also work with groups, community organizations, and policymakers to develop or improve programs, services, policies, and social conditions.

The specialization in Information Systems, a STEM program, is designed to provide the student with the background to perform the functions necessary in business information processing and management. In addition, the student can acquire sufficient knowledge so that he or she will be able to assume supervisory responsibilities in an information systems environment and lead strategic initiatives using information technologies for competitive advantage.

Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

A Secondary Education General Science degree prepares students to teach general science courses in the areas of chemistry, earth and space science, physics, and biology at the middle, junior, and senior high school levels (grades 6-12).

The global economy continues to rapidly expand, and therefore the demand for international business education is higher than ever. Educated individuals who have an understanding of the global diversity existing in the corporate world today are valuable participants in global business ventures. Today companies need individuals who can understand how to work within a setting surrounded by different languages, and who can take into account the broader perspective of trade regulations of different governing bodies. The BSBA integrated curriculum helps students to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the environmental aspects of international business in a variety of contexts, including socio-cultural, political, financial, and economic.
• Critically synthesizing, analyzing, and interpreting data to use in effective decision-making.
• Gain an understanding of the international dimensions of business functions, including marketing, finance, management, and operations.
• Critically analyze and communicate complex business issues in multinational markets.

In AUM’s Childhood Education program, you’ll get certified in either Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education or both, qualifying you to teach children from birth through grade 6. You’ll go from our classroom to your own classroom with a practicum under expert supervision in AUM’s own Early Learning Center, an internship under a local expert teacher, and hundreds of hours of supervised field experiences in local schools to practice what you’re learning in your teaching methods courses.
