The Human Development and Learning (HDL) major in UIC's Department of Educational Psychology helps students to become experts in how humans grow and improve their own well-being, with opportunities to study how people learn at many different age levels and in diverse environments.

The Bachelor of Science in Management from UIC Business will equip you with the necessary skills to successfully lead and manage people and organizations. With a varied curriculum encompassing management consulting, leadership and managerial skills and managerial logistics, you’ll gain the skills to excel in and lead teams, negotiate conflict and develop strategies to help a business succeed.

Management students can opt for a concentration in management consulting, leadership and managerial skills and managerial logistics.

The degree offers an interdisciplinary perspective to the study of Latin American societies and historical minorities and immigrants of Latin American descent living in the United States. It encourages an approach that ranges across the social sciences, humanities, literature and the arts, cultural studies, and history. The M.A. will train students to reflect on and engage with social issues of contemporary importance in the study of Latin American and Latino populations such as globalization, colonialism, postcolonialism, transnationalism, immigration, development, and equality as well as questions related to identity and membership, including race, culture, nationality, and gender.

The program will offer a unique set of research courses to prepare students, including a semester placement with a community-based organization in which students will be conducting research. Thus, the main goal of the M.A. is that students learn a series of specialized skills that place them on a solid career path, both in academic and non-academic settings

• Chicago is a unique city to study these topics. Over a million Latin Americans and Latinos live in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Virtually every Latin American nationality is represented. Ties with home countries are strong and there are numerous cultural and advocacy organizations.
• Our Program is also a member of Inter-University Program on Latino Research which offers a series of learning and professional opportunities to students. We currently host the IUPLR/Mellon Fellowship Program supporting doctoral students in the humanities writing a dissertation Latinx-related topics. Our Graduate Concentration also brings interested students from other departments at UIC to our program and classes, contributing to the richness of our scholarly milieu.

Biological Sciences majors study living systems. Students and faculty pursue diverse programs of study, including, but not limited to, biochemistry, animal behavior, cell biology, development, ecology, environmental sciences, evolution, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, paleontology, plant biology, physiology (cellular, organismal, and environmental), population biology, and urban ecology. Students completing a baccalaureate degree in Biological Sciences are prepared for a wide range of careers, including jobs in a variety of health professions, the veterinary or pharmaceutical sciences, public or private research, education, regulatory policy, conservation and wildlife biology, environmental professions, and agriculture.

The Department of Biological Sciences offers a program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Major in Biological Sciences.

Students majoring in finance will have access to faculty that brings both extensive real-world experience and an active research agenda on a variety of subjects into the classroom. They acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in an atmosphere of intellectual stimulation and active learning.

Our curriculum is built to help students focus on their dream careers within finance. The rich list of elective courses introduces students to various fields including corporate financial analysis, business valuation, investments and portfolio management, banking, international finance, trading, and risk management. Through close ties with finance professionals, we supplement the course materials with guest speakers from across the financial sectors. Our research faculty provides students with innovative educational programs that help students apply new insights to critical business problems.

The MS program in Bioengineering provides education in the research and development of systems using modern engineering concepts and methods. These methods apply modern technology to problems of living systems and health care.

From sales figures and account balances to photos, customer reviews and social media comments, data is waiting to be collected, organized and analyzed. Every industry is using technology to generate new data and they need analysts to interpret that data to understand customers, develop new products and enhance revenue.

The MS in Business Analytics will provide you with a holistic approach to the field and develop expertise in data management, machine learning and predictive analytics, along with a strong business foundation. You will gain the skill set necessary to analyze large data sets and generate insights through techniques in data visualization, statistical modeling and data mining. The program curriculum emphasizes industry experience, exposure and collaboration across a variety of analytics projects.

The Department of Anthropology at UIC is committed to cultivating responsible, global citizens. Programs are available in Anthropology and Geography, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Students majoring in Anthropology are given the opportunity to pursue interests with our faculty all over the world and to work closer with the curators, collections, and facilities at The Field Museum in Chicago. Courses and training are offered in archaeology, biological anthropology and sociocultural anthropology.

The MEd Youth Development program is committed to educating youth-dedicated professionals through fostering their knowledge, skills and passion for working with youth in urban contexts. Graduates will be prepared to create spaces, programs, and organizations that support youth developing their emotional, physical, social and intellectual selves.

Bioinformatics develops methods and computing tools for understanding biological data. As an integrative field of science, bioinformatics combines computer science, statistics, mathematics and engineering to analyze and interpret biological data.
