The MS in Data Science prepares graduates for careers in data analytics and related fields.  This is a science (as opposed to business) based program that is focused on developing students’ math foundation in statistics and linear algebra, and computer programming to prepare them for coursework in topics like machine learning, time series analysis, customer analytics, and data visualization.

Our department takes a broad view of the Earth and offers courses that develop a scientific understanding of our planet, its history, natural systems, resources and recent global change. We offer rigorous degree programs in Geology and Environmental Science that will prepare you for successful careers. Students in our department are immersed in experiences driven by our hands-on approach to learning.

We build outdoor experiences into every class and facilitate abundant domestic and international travel opportunities. While many of these trips explore fascinating locations throughout California, we also offer trips that explore a much broader range of locations around our world. Our majors travel to a range of regional and international destinations, including Scotland, the Chilean Patagonia, Hawaii, the Colorado plateau, and a variety of locations throughout the west coast of North America. Many of our majors work closely with faculty on award-winning research projects that can take students to exotic geologic locales, including western Ireland, Japan, the ancient Appalachian Mountains of upstate New York, the Marshall Islands and the high Sierra Nevada.

Pacific’s Eberhardt School of Business launches its STEM-designated Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) in Fall 2021. Open to students with a bachelor’s degree in any major, this unique 9-month plus internship program allows entry-level students to gain experience in the field using the vast industry network of the Eberhardt Career Management Center. The hybrid program blends online learning with on-campus evening classes at Pacific’s Stockton campus. With a curriculum built to align with the International Institute of Business Analytics standards, students will gain the essential skills and knowledge required to be successful leaders of data-informed business strategy.

Graduates with an analytics degree in business will be met with one of the fastest-growing and most versatile employment fields in the country. The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor states that “employment growth will be driven by an increasing use of data and market research across many industries.” Whether it is analytics applied to market research, operations research, or financial research, employment growth is projected to range from 14% to 25% from 2020 to 2030 in business analytics fields, which is must faster than the average job growth rate for all occupations. The increase in the collection and analyses of “big data”— extremely large sets of information in every industry — will provide the need for individuals who can gather, interpret, and analyze data to optimize decision-making.  `
