Our interdisciplinary degree integrates concepts and methods from computer science, graphic design and the social sciences. Drawing upon these concepts and methods, you will learn user-centered design approaches as you create information and communication technologies such as websites, mobile apps, computer games and software design.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.
By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.
Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers while developing additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.
We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

Your examination of public communication will include the study of public speaking and the principles of persuasion, argumentation and rhetoric. You’ll actively participate in class discussions on topics such as the ways individuals differ in their communication of gender and culture.
Students apply practical outcomes of their education through a service learning requirement that is part of their degree program. We strongly encourage internships, co-ops, independent studies and other opportunities to apply your campus learning experiences. If you excel, you may be eligible to join the department’s honor society, Lambda Pi Eta.
Student media The Oswegonian, WTOP-TV and WNYO-FM, as well as on-campus National Public Radio affiliate WRVO, provide opportunities to put your communication skills into action through performance, promotion and running social media accounts.

Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences
Bachelor of Science in Geology (STEM)
Our program provides a foundation in the principles of geology and its related sciences with four laboratories, a seismograph and field experiences. A newer track on environmental earth sciences integrates a set of cross-disciplinary environmental science experiences from biological sciences, chemistry, meteorology and physics.
Oswego is ideally located for field studies of Lake Ontario, carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower Paleozoic age, Precambrian rocks of the Adirondacks, Pleistocene glacial features and the pollution of rivers and ground waters. Field trips may include southeastern Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay, Ithaca, Whitaker State Park, and the Catskill Mountains.
You also can perform research with professors around the country, or learn firsthand about field-based research and much more in our Geology Field Program. Build your resume through internships and co-op opportunities, and complete an independent research project under the direction of a faculty adviser. Study geology abroad through through regular coursework or research placements.

Because employers look for physics graduates with a solid background in experimental methods and the use of modern electronic equipment and computers, all programs stress individual attention from faculty and practical laboratory experience. Oswego's physics program offers many hands-on opportunities in the Shineman Center through many labs and a working planetarium — as well as through sought-after internships and chances to study abroad.
Oswego offers top-notch internships, co-op opportunities and connections, most notably immersive 10-week internships at NASA's CalTech Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Participate hands-on in faculty research as part of your senior capstone experience in undergraduate research.
Physics facilities include our planetarium, computational laboratory, condensed matter physics laboratory, nanotechnology laboratory, thin films laboratory and nuclear instrumentation detectors lab, and an outdoor observatory.

Multidisciplinary courses in such topics as anthropology, sociology, the family, or communication and counseling, provide additional background from other social sciences. Through a personalized learning agreement, you can add three additional courses from different disciplines relevant to your personal educational and career goals.
Select two semester-long internships relevant to your career goals, and apply the academic material you’ve learned to working with people in a human-services role. Take courses to focus on the application of the scientific method in program settings to better and more efficiently serve people using skills in program development and evaluation.

To integrate research results from a wide range of disciplines into a more complete understanding of the mind, the programs draw on methods associated with psychology, computer science (artificial intelligence), linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and biology. You’ll start building a solid foundation in the field through two introductory courses that focus on the core values of cognitive science and the seminal ideas associated with contributing disciplines and the brain, mind and consciousness. In addition to learning more about yourself, you will be better equipped for success in our technologically vibrant society.
Enroll in our BA degree program and select a set of three upper-division courses from a broad range of options — including Neural Networks, Cognitive Musicology, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. Or choose our more tightly focused BS degree program and pursue additional coursework in psychology and computer science. Use your nine-semester-hour learning agreement to explore a particular aspect of the field in depth — and develop your own interest into a wealth of focused knowledge.

The curriculum explores the diverse experiences, perspectives, culture, history and significant contributions of women. This interdisciplinary major is designed to develop a broad understanding of the study of gender and women, investigate women's contributions in all areas of academic scholarship, and explore the relationship between cultural definitions of feminine and masculine behaviors and the realities of women's and men's lives. Choose from core or concentration courses to design programs that fit your specific interests and career orientation.
Take advantage of opportunities for learning beyond the traditional classroom by applying for internships, independent studies and seminars under the mentoring of an academic adviser. The program collaborates closely with the Women’s Center, a student organization that puts classroom instruction into practice. Centered primarily in the social and behavioral sciences, the program combines a liberal arts education, in-depth study in your area of interest and supervised fieldwork. We also offer an online degree completion program for those with appropriate transfer credit.
The optional internship gives you the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, and enables you to make contact with working professionals — and possible employers. Add a forensic science minor — or double-major in criminal justice and psychology, sociology or political science — to more fully prepare for career or graduate school plans. Choose evening or online options to fit coursework around your work or family schedule. Excel and you can work as a peer adviser or undergraduate assistant in certain courses, and you may be eligible to join Alpha Delta Omega, the public justice honor society.

Offered by the departments of mathematics and economics, the program's course requirements and electives divide equally between economic theory and mathematics, and include computer science coursework. The year long capstone experience places students in a position of developing software for real clients. The laboratory and instructional facilities support and encourage creativity and teamwork. Oswego’s software engineering program — the first in all of SUNY — provides a systems-oriented curriculum that encompasses software requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, configuration management, engineering management, engineering process, tools and quality assurance.
Join the Computer Science Association, which sponsors guest speakers, conducts programming contests, arranges tours of companies that hire graduates and provides opportunities for advanced students to tutor and mentor first-year students. Develop software for real clients during your year-long capstone experience. Pursue an internship or co-op opportunity in a company or institution, and gain software development experience in finance, defense, manufacturing, government or other fields.
