As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.

Critical Ethnic Studies
The Diplomacy and Critical Ethnic Studies concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practice—mediation, conflict resolution and advocacy—on behalf of marginalized communities. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy into conversation with the disciplines of critical race theory, ethnic studies, forced migration studies, history, and international studies.

Study communication in the context of popular culture, the corporate world, interpersonal relationships and new media with a master’s degree in Communication and Media. Develop diverse areas of interest while focusing on a specific content area with an optional concentration in Interpersonal Communication, Media and Cinema Studies, Multicultural Communication or Organizational Communication. You’ll master the tools and frameworks to critically examine and resolve real-life communication issues.

Organizational Communication
The Organizational Communication concentration focuses on communication challenges specific to business and organizational settings. It helps students to understand and manage the broad communication processes within organizations while enabling them to develop their individual skills as communicators.

This concentration will be of interest to professionals in corporate and nonprofit settings, particularly those who manage employees or have responsibilities for personnel issues.

The data science master’s will provide you with the technical knowledge and advanced computational skills to meet emerging challenges in big data analytics. With on-campus and online classroom learning formats, you can launch a career in data science with extraordinary faculty members—anytime, anywhere. Our online learning program replicates the classroom experience with 100 percent access to software, faculty advisors, career services, and a large network of alumni. Discover how you can manage and analyze complex data, develop data science models to support decision making, and effectively communicate analytical results to a non-technical audience.

Health Care
The health care concentration addresses the increasing need of data scientists responsible for gathering, integrating, analyzing and presenting health care data. Some courses are available online. Data science master’s students will learn analytics methods to support clinical decision systems, to improve patients’ outcomes and patients’ experience, and to improve clinical care and costs.

Our sociology degree program will help you develop the critical thinking skills needed to effectively observe sociological topics and become equipped to conduct sociological research.

As you work toward your Sociology degree, you’ll take advantage of exploring Chicago—a laboratory for research and observation with its ethnic communities, economic development and urban issues, giving you the opportunity to access Chicago’s rich and diverse culture through service opportunities, field experience and internships.

We offer combined bachelor’s + master’s degree programs including a combined bachelor’s in Sociology and a master’s in Secondary Education Social Sciences degree. These programs allow you to complete a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree in as few as five years.

The master’s in Digital Communication and Media Arts (DCMA) will give you the technical skills and tools to effectively navigate the digital communication landscape. This flexible program allows you to tailor your coursework across interests such as branding, content strategy, social media, data-driven marketing, media literacy, documentary production and design.

This interdisciplinary degree program is offered through the College of Communication and the College of Computing and Digital Media; you’ll take courses in Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism, Media and Cinema Studies, and Digital Communication.

DePaul’s Art program provides a broad foundation in studio art with classes that focus on understanding fundamental artistic concepts through research and conceptual thinking, creative problem solving, artistic skill development, and the historical functions of art and how it impacts the present day and the future.

Art majors at DePaul take a wide range of courses in state-of-the-art facilities, including digital computer labs, darkrooms, and studios for wood and metal sculpture, video, printmaking, painting and drawing.

The Master of Music in performance degree prepares students for professional music careers in a supportive, collegial environment.  Graduate students study with highly celebrated performers who are committed to teaching excellence.  The graduate performance program consists of applied lessons, ensembles, core studies in music theory/history and research, and related studies.  The Master of Music degree is a two year program.

From health care to academics to sports, the ability to research, analyze and interpret data is invaluable across a range of industries. DePaul’s MS in Applied Statistics not only emphasizes data-analytics skills, but explores how to tackle problems of statistical design, analysis and control. Learn about computation and technologies that play an important role in problem-solving across the job market, including research equipment and software used for data analysis, numerical analysis, simulations and mathematical modeling.

Biostatics Concentration
The Biostatistics concentration is designed to help students broaden their understanding of how statistics is applied to the biological and medical sciences. Students are introduced to various statistical tests and analysis programs, and through coursework and projects they explore and analyze data as it relates to real-life health issues. The Biostatistics concentration is appropriate for students who are interested in working for pharmaceutical companies, university research groups, and hospitals or health-related industries.

The bachelor’s degree in Physics program coursework focuses on scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities to give you hands-on experience in the field of physics. You’ll work with faculty members on research projects, which may result in your work being published in journals. Faculty members conduct research projects in a variety of areas, including complex fluids, materials science, ultra-fast physics, nuclear physics and observational astronomy.

The physics and astrophysics department offers a five-year joint program in engineering with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree in physics program, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a concentration in Engineering Physics from DePaul and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from IIT.
