History majors use the study of the past to make sense of a complicated world; they learn how to think critically, evaluate evidence, and write with clarity and strength. Majors attain skills that prepare them for jobs in a wide variety of fields, as employers look for applicants who have broad interests and backgrounds and analytical and verbal skills-- rather than narrow field specialization.

The study of history is useful in ways that students may not always anticipate, but which employers often understand... There is no single path that carries history undergraduates directly to one chosen career, but many ways in which skills learned in the study of the past can be translated into the enterprises of the present. History always involves asking how we can make sense of complex situations... That kind of awareness of the complexity of events is exactly what decision-making in business, government, law, journalism, and other fields often requires.

The Bachelor of Music: Performance concentration is designed to prepare music majors for professional performance careers, private studio teaching and/or the pursuit of further academic study.

The Bachelor of Arts with Major in Music is a degree that balances a general study of music with elective coursework in the liberal arts and humanities, providing a well-rounded liberal-arts-based educational experience for students wishing to pursue a variety of academic interests.

The department offers thesis and non-thesis options at the master's level. Students may specialize in several areas: telecommunications; digital signal processing; systems and robotics, including control systems and machine vision; electromagnetics and RF, antennas, microwave systems, EMC/EMI and HF RF circuit design; alternative energy systems, including photovoltaic and fuel cell systems; bioengineering; neural networks; and optics and photonics.

The Department of Marketing offers programs of study that prepare students for professional careers in the growing fields of brand management, retailing management, digital marketing, social media, advertising, and personal selling and sales management. Applied projects are interwoven with academic coursework to expose students to a range of current marketing trends and strategies. Original research and creative scholarship among department faculty contribute to improvements in both the theory and practice of marketing. Students are prepared to become effective marketing managers in the customer-centered marketplace of tomorrow.

The Department of Psychology is represented by faculty at three FAU campuses (Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter). The Department of Psychology maintains a research-intensive graduate program, offering the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Experimental Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Psychology. We service over 2100 undergraduate majors as well. Our award-winning and internationally renowned faculty conduct research in four core areas of Psychology: Cognitive & Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental, Neuroscience, and Social/Personality Psychology. Students in our program undergo rigorous academic and research training and have gone on to successful careers in both academia and industry.

Part of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, the department maintains close links with the Center for Complex Systems, with many faculty maintaining dual appointments. The department is among the most successful in the college in obtaining external funding and enjoys a strong national and international profile.

Philosophy has a very important role to play in the acquisition of a higher education.  The study of philosophy fosters an appreciation for the most fundamental ideas, questions, and texts that have profoundly shaped our culture.  However, the study of philosophy also lead to the rigorous development of very practical skills, such as critical thinking, clear and precise writing,  analytical skills, persuasive oral communication, and the ability to read and comprehend conceptually challenging texts.  These skills will help students succeed in life and in any career that they choose to pursue after earning their Bachelor's degree.

The Philosophy Department at Florida Atlantic University offers a high quality Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy.  In fact, s everal philosophy majors from Florida Atlantic University have successfully pursued their graduate/professional education at institutions such as Oxford University, Columbia University, Princeton University, The New School Universisty (formerly, The New School for Social Research), SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Binghampton.

The Department of Finance offers a variety of courses in finance which include corporate finance, investments, financial markets, banking, and international finance. The finance major is both a business field as well as a social science field, the major provides relevant training for a wide variety of careers. All finance majors draw upon strong mathematical and computer skills and interests. Many finance majors focus on the practical application of finance in both the private and government sectors. Some of the courses typically offered to a Major in Finance include principles of financial management, financial analysis, capital planning, capital budgeting, funds acquisition, asset and debt management, and investments and portfolio management.

Learning Goals for the Finance Major:

• Analyze the relationships that exist between the financial markets and the financial decisions of business enterprises.
• Apply the economic and financial theories regarding asset pricing to problem solving in financial management, investment management, and financial institutions.
• Explain the role of portfolio theory, diversification concepts, and asset-pricing theory in decision-making in both the business enterprise and investment management.
• Perform a financial analysis using financial statement information and other disclosures in order to assess the financial condition and performance of a business enterprise.
• Estimate the future cash flows associated with a financial or capital asset and apply valuation techniques to these cash flows to determine a present value that will assist in decision-making.

The International Business major arms students with the tools to tackle challenges in business while empowering them to contribute and engage in organizations and communities in a global business environment. Program goals are accomplished through an active partnership with the business community while the program continuously enhances the quality and impact of international business education.

The Biochemistry B.S. Program is designed for students pursuing careers in biochemistry and related disciplines, such as molecular biology, biophysics, and pharmacology. Additionally, premedical students who wish to pursue a research-oriented curriculum might be interested in this program.
