Quantitative Finance
As a JMU quantitative finance major, you’ll join an interdisciplinary program covering the design, development and implementation of innovative financial processes that encourages the formulation of creative solutions to problems in finance.

As such, it is unique among College of Business offerings, and your course of study will result in a B.S. degree with minors in economics and math or a double major with math. Q-Fin is a highly structured program and you must begin your mathematics courses in your freshman year in order to progress through the major in a timely manner. The required major course work provides you with the foundation and tools for a variety of financial situations and problem solving, while electives permit you to emphasize economics, mathematics, statistics or finance.

Anthropology
The anthropology program at JMU is designed to introduce students to the breadth of the discipline illustrating the topics and issues of the modern world that are addressed by its four sub-fields: cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, archeology and linguistics. Building from a general program, students can choose to concentrate in the theory and practice of any of the subfields except linguistics.

The program is strongly practice-oriented and encourages students to participate in internships, field schools, independent studies, and special topics that allow them to broaden their anthropological awareness. All of the faculty are actively involved in significant research within their chosen areas of study. This scholarship is not only reflected in courses that are current and informed by practical experience, but also in a wide range of opportunities for students to be mentored by faculty in collaborative research projects.

Psychology
Psychology is the major to consider if studying the area of science that explores how people and animals think, feel and act is of interest. Psychology majors complete course work that explores behavior, emotions, cognitive processes and the factors that influence them from a variety of perspectives. Psychologists study behavior at both a cellular (e.g. examining the role of the brain and the nervous system) and at a more global level (e.g. examining the influences of culture). As psychology majors students will enhance their problem-solving, critical thinking, writing and oral expression skills as they learn to use the tools available to behavioral scientists.

Students choose to major in psychology for many reasons. Psychology can be students' primary area of interest within a liberal arts education that will lead to many professional opportunities that require a bachelor's degree, or it can be a pre-professional program leading to advanced study in graduate school. Popular types of graduate programs pursued by graduates of our program have been counseling, school psychology, education, clinical psychology, psychological science, social work, forensic psychology/criminal justice, industrial/organizational psychology, behavior analysis, law school and college administration.

Geology
The Geology major offers specialized study focusing on earth materials, internal and external earth processes, analysis of earth history and appreciation of geology to environmental and engineering issues. The program provides a strong theoretical background in geology while allowing students flexibility in choosing courses to prepare for a specific career in the geological sciences. Graduates have attained employment as geologists and environmental scientists, as well as entry into prestigious graduate schools.

The major prepares students to collect data in the field and laboratory on minerals, rocks, fossils, landforms and structures; properly use field and laboratory equipment; and construct accurate geologic maps and displays of geologic data. Geology Title use geologic data to write interpretive geological reports and histories of regions; solve environmental and economic geological problems, and critically evaluate the theories and conclusions of other earth and environmental scientists. Students will have the opportunity to engage in research with a diverse and professionally active faculty.

Students majoring in public administration take courses in U.S. politics and policy, public and nonprofit management, economics, and research methodology. Interested students may apply in their sophomore year to participate in the Fifth-Year Master of Public Administration degree program, which allows qualified students to earn an MPA degree with one additional year of study. Our vast network of alumni helps students transition to careers in government, consulting, policy advocacy, communications and the non-profit sector.

Accounting
Our accounting graduates are always in high demand. You will be prepared for a variety of careers in the fields of accounting, finance, auditing, consulting and information systems. The Art, Studio major is designed for students who seek a breadth of knowledge in the visual arts and who have an interest or background in the humanities and foreign language. The art, studio faculty is made up of practicing artists who work closely with the students, and students also work closely with each other as they develop their studio practice. Visiting artists and scholars, workshops, field trips and frequent on-campus exhibitions of professional artwork enhance student engagement with contemporary art. Additionally, students have opportunities to exhibit and present their artwork, to assist in running on-campus galleries and studio art labs and to partake in other hands-on art experiences.

Students graduating with a major in art, studio will:

• Display technical command of at least one medium and display fluency in a range of media.
• Effectively analyze and apply two- and three-dimensional design principles and devices
• Develop an independent line of creative inquiry that embraces risk-taking and inventive solutions
• Knowledgeably critique and contextualize their artwork to cultivate expressive ideas and meaningful content
• Demonstrate awareness of contemporary art and art history within a global context

ISAT is a program that emphasizes the interdisciplinary application of science, technology, math and systems thinking to the compelling and complex problems that challenge our society. Students collaborate science and technology with the political, social, economic, and ethical considerations required to address complex, real-world challenges such as pandemics, climate change, information privacy, and sustainable transportation networks. From developing clean energy, advancing modern medicine through biotechnology to improving sustainability, ISAT is a community that joins together to learn, solve problems and make a difference.

As an ISAT major, you’ll:

• Enjoy a range of options in choosing what to study: applied biotechnology, energy, engineering/manufacturing, environment, information and knowledge management, telecommunications – including the option to create your own.
• Participate in course work and research that addresses major local, national and global challenges.
• Have opportunities for experiential learning in the field, in the lab, and in the community.
• Complete a two year long capstone project working individually or in teams to solve a real-world problem – often teaming with local industry or governmental sponsor.

Musical Theater   
The School of Theatre and Dance combines the best attributes of a liberal arts education and professional arts training. Students major in theatre, musical theatre, or dance and study with a faculty of working professionals who give personal attention to every student. International Business
The requirements of the major are designed to allow you to choose an optional concentration in finance or marketing. Some international business majors also declare a second major, such as foreign language or another business area.

To ensure success, competency in a second language and thorough exposure to a chosen second culture through study abroad or a one-semester international internship are graduation requirements.
