TROY’s American/Latin American history degree gives you the opportunity to study under the instruction of qualified faculty members who are dedicated to help you develop the skills of critical thinking and rigorous research. As you work your way toward earning your degree, you will be exposed to a wide range of Western civilization and U.S. history. You can choose from an array of courses that will take you on a journey through the Old and New South, Jacksonian Era and Colonial America. If war-time America interests you, there are courses on the American Revolution, World War II, Civil, Vietnam and Cold Wars.  

With your focus on Latin America, your courses will include the history of colonial to modern Latin America. Classes in both areas will introduce you to the origins, development and character of the major centers of civilizations and their relationships to one another. Through your courses, you will dive deep into classes that focus on topics such as the study of alcohol and drug use, politics, infectious diseases, gender, religion and more. The Master of Science Graduate Program in Environmental and Biological Sciences is designed to broaden the student's perspective and provide skills and knowledge for understanding and solving problems in the environmental and biological sciences. The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. This program teaches students how to manage conflicts and emphasizes the importance of effectively communicating with the private and public sectors, regulatory agencies, interest groups, and communities. The Program objectives are listed below:

• To demonstrate the pivotal role of the environmental and biological sciences in understanding and addressing environmental, ecological, medical, agricultural and policy-related issues.
• To promote the professional development of students for entry and advancement in the private and public sectors as scientists, educators, administrators or managers.
• To provide students with the necessary skills for performing research, reviewing and evaluating regulatory guidelines and writing professional documents.
• To foster an understanding and appreciation of the role of values and ethics in research, management and institutional performance.

If a career in physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical exercise testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, health-fitness/wellness, strength and conditioning or nutrition is in your future, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is a perfect fit. This competitive program includes concentrations in pre-health professions, health and wellness and nutrition, and incorporates coursework from five academic departments spread across two colleges.

With an emphasis on preparation for entry into graduate health profession schools in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant, you will be prepared to successfully enter into graduate health profession schools nationwide. Upon completion of the program, you will also be prepared to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning. Within this program, you’ll develop sound judgment, a sense of mission and ethics, problem-solving skills, the flexibility and adaptability to tackle a variety of issues and challenges, management abilities, an understanding of politics and government and a motivation to serve.

• Demonstrate a sound foundational knowledge and understanding of the principles of biology, chemistry and nutrition and an advanced understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Demonstrate basic laboratory skills pertaining to assessments, laboratory methods, sound experimental and analytical practices, data acquisition and reporting in the exercise sciences with emphasis on physiology and biomechanics.
• Participate in the research process including literature reviews, data collection and data analysis related to the importance and influence of physical activity, nutrition and exercise on health.
• Understand and apply the principles of exercise testing and prescription to diverse populations at various developmental stages and under a range of health conditions.
• Demonstrate requisite skills and abilities for meaningful employment in exercise science-related areas or pursue graduate studies in an exercise science-related area.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, physical therapists are among the fastest growing occupations in the nation with more than a 22 percent growth rate projected from 2018-2028.

That growth isn’t only felt in the physical therapy field—other rehabilitation-related occupations are expected to grow rapidly, as well. The BLS projects there will be a 22 percent growth rate among professions such as mental health counseling, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and substance abuse counseling.
