The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. Individuals interested in helping others will find that a degree in human services will prepare them for a variety of professional roles. Human services professionals may choose areas of practice that allow them to assist children and families, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants or veterans. In addition, they may assist people with addictions, criminal records, disabilities and mental illnesses.

Human services professionals work in a variety of organizations such as those assisting people with finding employment and appropriating food, nutrition, housing and shelter. They may also serve as victims’ assistants or work in public safety or disaster relief.

The Biology/Biomedical Sciences program prepares students for careers in the health professions and biotechnology. It is an integral part of the pre-professional program. Students who receive a bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biomedical Sciences are well prepared to enter graduate or professional school, begin careers as laboratory technicians or seek employment in the biotechnology industry. 

Students complete a wide variety of courses aimed at providing a thorough understanding of the development, structure, and organization of the cell and are exposed to a wide variety of modern approaches to analyze genetic, molecular, and cellular events.

Specialized courses in Microbial Ecology Applied Genetics, Biochemistry, and Immunology complement the offerings in Biomedical Sciences. The inclusion of lab-based investigations in these courses serves to enhance the students' exposure to state of the art approaches to solving complex problems in biological systems.

Students who choose the Biology/Biomedical Sciences program will have many opportunities for growth outside the classroom. Many research opportunities are available for students to conduct research with faculty mentors using current technology and equipment. Additionally, students are encouraged to join the Department's three student organizations, including: Beta Beta Beta (National Biological Honor Society), The Environmental Club, and Alpha Epsilon Delta (Health Professions Honor Society).

As you work toward earning your bachelor’s in mathematics, you’ll find yourself a part of a close-knit family of scholars and mathematicians within TROY’s Department of Mathematics. You’ll find that within many of your math courses, you’ll enjoy small class sizes—all of which are  taught by caring and dedicated faculty members. The purpose of Troy University's English major is to prepare undergraduate students to enter today's professions, public services, or graduate programs with literacy in English and American language. They also gain a knowledge of the world's literary culture adequate for success in today's global culture. They develop skills in formulating answers to questions through open-minded research. They also develop approaches to logical, critical, and creative thinking. Some of the other tangible goals sought in the program include:

• A development of clarity, directness, and effective personal style in the spoken and written language that characterize a well-educated person in today's global community;
• An appreciation and understanding of the long process of development behind the language and cultural configurations that define meaningful communication today, and an appreciation and understanding of the necessity for carrying this intellectual development forward in a responsible way;
• An ability to use linguistic and literary facts, which form the actual substance of the various areas of the English discipline, as enjoyable as well as practical assets in today's occupations and leisure activities.
