The English program provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in many diverse areas of education, public relations, communications, law, and marketing.  As an English major, you will develop skills to become a critical reader, writer, and thinker through the study of diverse literary genres, writing strategies, and research skills.

Creative Writing
The creative writing emphasis focuses on the development and writing of original works and promotes opportunity for self-expression, emphasizing the relationship between writer and audience, while also exposing students to the professional world of publishing.

Business analytics refers to the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for the methodical exploration and investigation of business data. This includes using predictive and prescriptive statistical tools to support decision-making and to gain insight of business performance. There is a growing need in the market for well-rounded graduates who are able to transform data into meaningful information that can be used for strategic decision-making.

The Business Analytics Emphasis provides students with the skills to collect, analyze, understand, and interpret data. It exposes students to a variety of information systems and data through a series of business analytics courses. Students will also be provided with hands-on experience of statistical tools used in the business environment using data provided by industry partners. Our curriculum is designed to support a seamless transition from student to business professional.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at University of Findlay prepares tomorrow’s business leaders through a comprehensive curriculum focused on personal and professional development. Students gain a global perspective for smart business leadership in today’s increasingly diverse marketplace. Students will also grow their leadership skills to positively impact their life as well as the lives of whom they manage.

An emphasis in web and database prepares students for careers as Web programmers, database administrators, or software engineers.  Graduates will be able to create the back-end programming needed for today's business websites and ensure data are efficiently managed and organized to meet today's information needs.

To complete a Computer Science degree with a Web and Database Emphasis you must complete six web and database emphasis courses in addition to the computer science core courses.

Operations and logistics students learn how to plan, design, implement, manage and support activities for virtually any industry.

• Six Sigma Green Belt Certification - Offered as part of a master's class (MBA 685), Six Sigma Green Belt Certification teaches a statistical approach to business problem solving, which can be used to solve problems like inefficiency in the manufacturing industry.

Findlay's children's book illustration major provides a curriculum focused on skills specific to the field of illustration such as drawing, painting, printmaking, design and typography while also integrating coursework in children's literature.  Students work closely with art faculty and the Mazza Museum staff to gain knowledge of the publishing industry and develop their skills in sequential storytelling.

Program Highlights

• Students in the children's book illustration major enjoy access to the Mazza Museum, the most diverse collection of original artwork by children's book illustrators in the world. Students attend annual Mazza conferences, interact with nationally recognized award-winning illustrators, complete internships with the museum, and volunteer with monthly educational events.
• The Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery provides opportunities for art management students to participate in the organization, preparation, and installation of shows. The Lea Gallery presents eight to ten exhibitions throughout the year, including works by students, faculty, and regional and national artists.  Students engage with exhibiting artists through gallery talks, classroom demonstrations, and public presentations.
• Children's book illustration majors have the opportunity to visit nationally-recognized museums and galleries through study trips abroad, annual art program trips to New York City and Chicago, and class trips to museums such as the Toledo Museum of Art and the Detroit Institute of Art.

General Writing
The general writing emphasis provides students the opportunity to develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through exposure to a variety of primary and secondary texts. Students learn to recognize that all speech acts occur in a specific rhetorical context and are trained to communicate effectively in genres appropriate to those contexts.
