Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is an academic discipline focused on understanding the development of individuals and families over time and across the ecological contexts in which they live. HDFS is an applied field of study and a versatile undergraduate major for students interested in working to enhance the lives of individuals and families through in-demand careers in settings that include early childhood education, schools, hospitals, and social service agencies. The HDFS curriculum offers students the opportunity to take courses from child and adolescent development to adult development and aging; family, parenting, and interpersonal relationships; classroom curriculum, observation, and assessment; and family programming, policy, and law. Courses in the HDFS major emphasize diverse experiences across age, gender, race and ethnicity, nationality, and socioeconomic status and prepare students for inclusive programming and practice.    

The Integrative and Organismal Biology (IOB) option offers a home to students interested in basic organismal biology in all of its diverse aspects (physiology, neurobiology, behavior, cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, systematics, etc.), in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. Modern biology employs approaches and tools ranging from molecular to ecological levels to gain a deep understanding of organismal functions and adaptations. Students in IOB approach their studies with a focus on organisms, and apply whatever tools are necessary to answer thematic and specific questions. Students interested in combining hands-­on biological projects with research on teaching and learning biology at the post-­secondary level should choose this option. Students completing degrees in IOB will be prepared for a wide range of professional careers in animal and/or plant biology, whether in academia, government, research, or non­profit organizations.

A degree option in Ocean Mapping is for students who wish to prepare for careers in such areas as federal and institutional marine research, federal and international positions in hydrographic surveying, the environment, private sector offshore mineral resources exploration industries, and marine hardware and software development. The study of ocean mapping is a key niche in the ocean technology field.

Hydrography, in the context of this program, is the measurement and definition of the configuration of the bottoms and adjacent land areas of oceans, lakes, rivers, harbors, and other water areas, and the tides (or water levels) and currents that occur in those bodies of water. It includes elements of both physical oceanography, and surveying and mapping. Ocean mapping is a broader concept that includes not only the elements of hydrography, but also encompasses such topics as the geologic characterization of the seabed and the mapping of living resources and habitats.

If you’re interested in teaching music and would like to obtain a graduate degree, the pre-teaching degree program allows you to complete a Bachelor of Music in music education degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in five years of study. After four years of undergraduate music education, you’ll undertake a fifth-year internship and graduate study to complete your Master of Arts and teaching certification. You’ll study music history, theory analysis and performance, as well as teaching methods and human development. You’ll be able to select an emphasis in vocal or instrumental music.

The education specialist program is designed for educators who have a master's degree in educational administration or its equivalent. Once completed, you’ll be eligible for certification as a New Hampshire superintendent. The principalship option of the Ed.S. is designed for students who do not hold a master’s degree in school administration or principal certification, which can be earned through optional additional coursework. In this graduate program, you’ll be immersed in subject matter, research, theory and field-based experience. Whether in your community or at a policy level, you’ll be prepared to establish caring environments while fostering cooperation and educational improvement.

With an M.A. in history, you’ll gain an advanced understanding of how societies, cultures, economics, politics, science and arts of the past have shaped today’s world. Our Master of Arts degree is highly flexible, so you can tailor your program to meet your needs. Our faculty are experts in a wide range of times, places and subjects, with particular strengths in cultural history, women's history, military history, the history of religion, Atlantic history, and the history of science and technology. In this graduate program, you’ll be trained in methods of historical research and writing that will prepare you for a professional career or advanced studies.

The Option in Accounting prepares students for careers in accounting and the qualifications to obtain certifications, such as certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA), and certified internal auditor (CIA). Accounting is called "the first language" of business for good reason: the fate of many products and marketing campaigns hinges on the financial officer's final analysis. For this reason, successful accounting professionals often assume leadership roles within their companies. 

Further, this option provides students with opportunities in a variety of fields, including internal audit, external audit, tax preparation and planning, and consulting. Demand for accountants is consistently strong. Students may also take advantage of the four-one (5 year) program to earn a M.S. in accounting at Paul College. Obtaining a master's degree aids in preparation and eligibility for the CPA exam and is recommended for future career progression.

Whether you live for the stage, have a love of costumery or see yourself running things behind the scenes, a theatre degree will allow you to engage with your passion for the performing arts. In this general degree program, you’ll study performance, theatre history, and the elements of design and theatre technology. The program was designed with a lighter credit load, allowing you to combine your studies with another degree.

A master's degree in accounting will prepare you for fast-track advancement in the field. Education notes that an M.S. in accounting is one of the top options for those looking to fuel a career switch from their current position. The Ancient Mediterranean Civilizations (AMC) option balances language study with the opportunity for students to select from a wide range of courses covering many aspects of the Greek and Roman worlds, as well as the neighboring peoples in Europe, North Africa and the Near East. The flexibility of this option makes it especially attractive for students who wish to double major in another subject. It is generally not suitable, however, for those who wish to pursue related graduate study or a career in teaching Latin. AMC majors can, however, supplement the requirements with additional coursework to keep these options open.
