Master of Science in Atmospheric Science

This concentration is designed for the music student who wishes to concentrate primarily on the major performing skill.

Applicant proposing concentration in Music Performance Vocal Emphasis must demonstrate outstanding performance skills. An on-site audition is required; in extreme cases, recorded examples of an applicant’s performance may be accepted in lieu of an in-person audition. Applicant should contact faculty in the appropriate performance area to inquire about specific audition repertoire and procedures.

At UWM, students with a passion for nature and the environment can obtain a solid education in the natural sciences that are central to environmental science - biology, geosciences, and chemistry - and the social sciences of geography, economics, and politics which guide the application of conservation and environmental science in the real world.

Students at UWM can focus their conservation and environmental science work around land resources, water resources, biological resources/biodiversity, or environmental analysis. Internships and field work complement classroom learning. These opportunities can be found locally at UWM's own Field Station, on Lake Michigan aboard UWM's R/V Neeskay vessel, and at local agencies, or abroad in places as far flung as Iceland, Africa, Romania and the Caribbean.

This concentration is designed for the music student with an undergraduate degree in piano who wishes to specialize as a collaborative pianist in instrumental repertoire. A student must successfully pass an audition that demonstrates an advanced level of collaborative skill to qualify for admission to the program.

UWM is one of Wisconsin’s two R1 research universities making it the ideal place to participate in important research and to further your studies in electrical and computer engineering. The Master of Science (MS) is a college-wide program where you can gain the technical depth and breadth you need.

This MS program enables students to take a deep dive into electrical engineering and choose from seven broad areas where our faculty are engaged in research: Automatic Control, Communications, Networking, Signal & Image Processing, Fields and Optics, Machine Intelligence, Microelectronics & Nanotechnology, and Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Systems.

Civil Engineering is a profession that deals with the infrastructure of society and impacts your everyday life. From the roads and bridges you use every day to the drinking water that comes out of your tap at home, civil engineers work to develop safe, efficient and sustainable ways to continually improve our infrastructure.

Geotechnical Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering utilizes the disciplines of rock and soil mechanics to investigate subsurface and geologic conditions. These investigations are used to design and build foundations, earth structures and pavement sub-grades.

The Department of Health Informatics and Administration offers the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) to provide evidence-based training in micro and macro theory and practice to advance the health of individuals and communities—local, national, and international. The program enables students to understand the complex interrelationships between health organizations, societal and cultural contexts, and biological systems, and emphasizes the well-being of the individuals and populations affected by these complex interrelationships. The UWM MHA program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and is the only CAHME-accredited MHA program in the State of Wisconsin.

The worlds of journalism, advertising, and public relations are changing at a rapid pace with the integration of social media, mobile apps, amateur photography and video, and instant feedback. UWM's Department of Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies (JAMS) is a great place to learn about the tools used today and to obtain the skills to adapt to the channels of tomorrow.

The Department of Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies (JAMS) teaches students about the role of media in culture and society and offers hands-on experience in journalism and advertising/public relations. The JAMS major blends liberal arts education in media studies with professional training for work in media fields.

In development of metal objects and wearables, our program focuses on qualities unique to Metalsmithing as a craft practice. Students gain an understanding of the discipline, its conditions, possibilities and limitations, while allowing for multiple traditional and experimental processes and approaches.

This concentration is designed primarily for the student with an undergraduate degree in music education or performance who wishes to pursue advanced training in Conducting: Choral Emphsis plus related studies in music performance and allied areas. A student must successfully pass an audition that demonstrates an advanced level of conducting skill to qualify for admission to the program.  Students may also have to pass other audition(s) in performance area(s), depending on their focus.

UWM's Global Studies program combines the benefits of a liberal arts education with the training of a professional program to prepare students to work internationally or domestically on matters that cross borders and cultures. The College of Letters and Science and several of UWM's professional schools have formed a partnership to offer students this unique program of study that will prepare them for positions of global leadership in our increasingly interconnected world.

At UWM, Global Studies is a rigorous degree program incorporating classes across disciplines, including an extensive foreign language requirement. This challenging and rewarding program prepares students to excel in a job market that demands knowledge across subject areas and a culturally sensitive approach. The analytical, communication, cultural knowledge and language skills acquired through the Global Studies degree will serve students well in any area of work.

Global Studies students choose from one of five tracks:

• Global Communications - with a focus on language, culture and the technology of modern, global communication (option for a joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the School of Information Studies)
• Global Management - focusing on business and the world economy (joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business)
• Global Security - dealing with aspects of conflict and change such as water resources, war, human rights, borders, and global health
• Global Sustainability - where students develop expertise in matters of the environment and government systems
• Global Health - a track for students interested in global careers in healthcare, international aid, healthcare policy, international health education, health outreach, and international health regulations (option for a joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the College of Nursing)
