Psychology for allied health

This sequence prepares students for work in complementary professional fields upon graduation. Careers immediately available to health sciences graduates within the pathway to allied professions, can be divided broadly into the following categories (please refer to the Psychology Careers website for details):

• Coaching and counselling individuals and groups
• Health and human services consulting

Spanish

Spanish is a thriving international language and the official language in 21 countries. Close to 500 million people are Spanish native speakers, making the language second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. Deakin’s Spanish studies will help you develop a wide range of communication skills in Spanish, regardless of whether you have any previous experience in the language. Our sequential proficiency levels will take you from scratch to fluency or near fluency. If you already know some Spanish you will be able to enter your major or minor from an intermediate level. Furthermore, you will acquire an understanding and cultural awareness of the varied societies and cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world. In-country language programs will be made available to students undertaking a major sequence in Spanish.

Honours is an optional year of specialised study that allows you to combine the theory and practical skills gained throughout your undergraduate degree. Deakin’s Master of Information Technology Management will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and manage information technology projects and people within enterprise. 

This course develops your understanding of the many aspects of IT including networking, cyber security, operations, and enterprise systems.
As an enterprise manager you will work alongside, manage and lead artificial intelligence specialists, software engineers, data scientists, application developers and business analysts. 

This course is ideal for students without a computing background, as well as those who would like to support their industry experience with a recognised academic qualification.

Chemistry
This major sequence provides an introduction to the synthesis, separation, detection and measurement of chemical substances, their properties and reactions.

Working across a range of social media platforms, you will specialise in digital content creation to engage audiences and build communities. On top of the expertise required to qualify as a registered nurse, graduates can register with the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), with Deakin being the only Victorian university to hold this accreditation. The course balances contemporary theory with extensive placement experience, and combined approaches involving community engagement, policy development, and research. Graduate career-ready with 920 hours of work placements in both nursing and public health and health promotion settings.
