Sociology

Sociology is the academic study of society. We explore social change and how social structures, social institutions and culture shape the lives of individuals and communities. Deakin Sociology engages with contemporary issues in the global and Australian landscape such as how society shapes (and is shaped by) illness and health policies, gender and sexuality, religion and new forms of spirituality, migration and inequality, violence and social control. Deakin sociologists are active social researchers with expertise in a variety of methodologies including digital and traditional ethnographies, visual methods, in-depth interviews, focus groups, survey research, experimental design in sociological research, and our graduates learn to apply these skills to the study of social life.

Medical Biotechnology
Medical Biotechnology uses living cells and cell materials to produce pharmaceutical and diagnostic products that help treat and prevent human diseases. This major provides you with a sound understanding of the core sciences underpinning biotechnology for medical advancement. You will be taken on a journey from the development of the first medical treatments through to regenerative medicine and cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic deliver systems such as nanotechnology and the associated social and ethical issues surrounding their use. You will also learn the business of medical biotechnology including risk management, funding and regulatory frameworks relative to the Medical Biotechnology industry.

Deakin’s Master of Information Technology Management will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and manage information technology projects and people within enterprise. 

This course develops your understanding of the many aspects of IT including networking, cyber security, operations, and enterprise systems.
As an enterprise manager you will work alongside, manage and lead artificial intelligence specialists, software engineers, data scientists, application developers and business analysts. 

This course is ideal for students without a computing background, as well as those who would like to support their industry experience with a recognised academic qualification.

Spanish

Spanish is a thriving international language and the official language in 21 countries. Close to 500 million people are Spanish native speakers, making the language second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. Our sequential proficiency levels will take you from scratch to fluency or near fluency. If you already know some Spanish you will be able to enter your major or minor from an intermediate level.
