Religious Studies
Understanding religion has seldom been as important as it is today. There is increasing dialogue among the greater religions of the world, but there is also increasing misunderstandings of religious traditions. Religious ideas are regularly debated in the media and featured in popular culture and religious beliefs play a significant role in conflict, peace building, and international development. With countries and communities becoming more diverse and complex, the need for cross-cultural religious literacy and inter-disciplinary expertise in religion is becoming more urgent.

The Religious Studies Major is a multi-disciplinary major that looks at religion and religions from diverse viewpoints and methodologies. The major includes units from the disciplines of anthropology, philosophy, sociology, literary and cultural studies and others. It also offers the possibility of focusing on particular religious traditions.

History
You have the opportunity to explore the nature of the modern world – the forces that have shaped our past and present, and the ways historians interpret historical events. Medical Biotechnology
Medical Biotechnology uses living cells and cell materials to produce pharmaceutical and diagnostic products that help treat and prevent human diseases. This major provides you with a sound understanding of the core sciences underpinning biotechnology for medical advancement. You will be taken on a journey from the development of the first medical treatments through to regenerative medicine and cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic deliver systems such as nanotechnology and the associated social and ethical issues surrounding their use. You will also learn the business of medical biotechnology including risk management, funding and regulatory frameworks relative to the Medical Biotechnology industry.

Cell Biology and Genomics
This major sequence provides an introduction to the nature of genes, genomes and the molecular and biochemical basis of cells, including their physiological properties, development, function and interaction with their environment. You will also learn about DNA sequencing and analysis and how an understanding of genomics relates to human health and wellbeing, the environment, biodiversity management and food production systems.  Students will also learn about the molecular basis of disease.

Curious about what makes people think, feel and behave the way they do? Deakin's Bachelor of Psychological Science covers many aspects of human behaviour and personality, and prepares you for a range of careers in the fast-growing health sector.^ The course also sets you up to pursue further study towards provisional registration as a psychologist. This course is offered at Burwood, Geelong, Warrnambool and online, so you can study where and when it suits you and our flexible trimester system means you can fast-track the course over two years of full-time study. Deakin is also the only university in Victoria where you can study specialist psychology majors during your undergraduate degree, so you can pursue your interests early on with a major in Child and Family, Organisational Studies or Forensic Studies.

This major brings together complementary units from within Health and Social Development and Psychology with a particular focus on the health and development of the family system and its members.
