Cell Biology and Genomics
This major sequence provides an introduction to the nature of genes, genomes and the molecular and biochemical basis of cells, including their physiological properties, development, function and interaction with their environment. You will also learn about DNA sequencing and analysis and how an understanding of genomics relates to human health and wellbeing, the environment, biodiversity management and food production systems.  Students will also learn about the molecular basis of disease.

The Visual Art and Photography major combines in-depth disciplinary training in visual art and photography practices and digital technologies alongside a sequence of open-ended studio-based studies encouraging cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary thinking. There is emphasis on exhibition making as an integral aspect of professional studio practice and our various studio and gallery spaces are designed to support a dynamic culture of studio production and development, collaboration, experimentation, exhibition and critique.

Media Studies

Hope your skills analysing the practices and processes that drive the creation and consumption of media around the globe. Media Studies at Deakin focuses on the role of literature, film, television and the full range of digital media in creating, shaping and re-shaping society and culture. You will explore the structures of the global film and television industries, debate issues of globalisation and representation and appreciate the role that different media texts play in understanding self and society.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Expertise in biology and the science behind disease puts you in a position to make a real difference. Explore early diagnosis, disease progression and prognosis, and the role of pharmaceutical science in the treatment of disease and improved health. 

Molecular Life Sciences
Molecular Life Sciences aim to understand and describe the biology of life at the level of atoms and molecules in the context of cells, tissues and entire organisms. It is based on the chemistry of life and the physical laws that govern it. Throughout this major you will study topics including biochemistry, microbiology, physiology and genetics. Fundamental research in Molecular Life Sciences underpins all efforts to develop new drugs and treatments. This major will enable you to acquire an advanced understanding of chemical, physiological and genetic processes that determine health and disease at the molecular level. In addition, technical skills relevant for biomedical research will be obtained. Explore topics like the sociology, politics and policy of education, the history and philosophy of education, how psychology is applied to the work of educators to better understand how people learn and become motivated, and how we teach each other about inclusivity and diversity. Additionally learn how to make a social justice impact through developing engaging and inclusive resources for educational professional practice.

Curious about what makes people think, feel and behave the way they do? Deakin's Bachelor of Psychological Science covers many aspects of human behaviour and personality, and prepares you for a range of careers in the fast-growing health sector.^ The course also sets you up to pursue further study towards provisional registration as a psychologist. Core employability-orientated units and the option of undertaking 140 hours of real-world experience with an industry placement will strengthen your employment prospects and help you graduate work-ready.
 
This course is offered at Burwood, Geelong, Warrnambool and online, so you can study where and when it suits you and our flexible trimester system means you can fast-track the course over two years of full-time study. Deakin is also the only university in Victoria where you can study specialist psychology majors during your undergraduate degree, so you can pursue your interests early on with a major in Child and Family, Organisational Studies or Forensic Studies.

Throughout the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Environmental Management and Sustainability) you will explore ways to manage the interaction between people and the environment. Combining the latest research with extensive application of skills in professional, community, lab and field settings, you will devise and implement innovative solutions to protect natural resources in local and global contexts.

Develop the confidence to address some of the biggest environmental issues we face on a global scale by exploring the role science and society play in achieving global sustainability. Fieldwork is a rewarding part of this course and you will get plenty of opportunities to apply your skills in beautiful outdoor and community settings. Industry placements of 60 to 80 hours provide even more practical experience and the opportunity to work alongside experienced environmental scientists.
