Event Management
Events are a feature of modern life. They are used to make cities and regions distinctive; mark milestones in our lives and families; promote products, companies and organisations; enable learning, professional development and networking; and celebrate our culture and identity. Not surprisingly, event management is a growing area of work that incorporates diverse fields such as business, government, education and the community sector.

The work of event managers is dynamic and challenging. They design events that appeal to diverse audiences, ensure the safety of participants, manage diverse stakeholders, limit the environmental impact of their activity, and deliver events on time and to budget. Event management is both a growing and evolving area of management practice. Underpinning this work are complex skills and knowledge involving design, marketing, communication, innovation and planning.

Deakin's Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion/Bachelor of Commerce combined course allows you to take your commercial knowledge into the fast-growing health sector, or your health expertise into the commercial world. Graduates can register with the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), with Deakin being the only Victorian university to hold this accreditation. You will also gain a globally recognised commerce qualification, learning to solve real commercial challenges alongside industry leaders.

The hands-on experience you will undertake in a health-related agency will equip you with the skills needed to work in a public health or health promotion role. Spanish
Spanish is a thriving international language and the official language in 21 countries. Close to 500 million people are Spanish native speakers, making the language second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. Deakin’s Spanish studies will help you develop a wide range of communication skills in Spanish, regardless of whether you have any previous experience in the language. Our sequential proficiency levels will take you from scratch to fluency or near fluency. If you already know some Spanish you will be able to enter your major or minor from an intermediate level. Furthermore, you will acquire an understanding and cultural awareness of the varied societies and cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world. In-country language programs will be made available to students undertaking a major sequence in Spanish.

Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Dietetics Pathway) offers guaranteed entry into our Master of Dietetics if you achieve a 75 weighted average mark or above. The course develops your understanding of human nutrition and its impact on health. Learn how to tackle challenges facing our society including disease prevention, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing.

This sequence prepares students for work in complementary professional fields upon graduation. Careers immediately available to health sciences graduates within the pathway to allied professions, can be divided broadly into the following categories (please refer to the Psychology Careers website for details):

• Health and human services consulting

Clinical placements begin in Trimester 1 of first year and continue throughout every trimester of the course, totalling 800 hours. Clinical placements enable you to care for people from diverse cultural backgrounds in a range of healthcare settings, enabling application of knowledge and further development of technical and non-technical skills. They are undertaken in various metropolitan, regional and rural healthcare settings and are supported by qualified and experienced clinicians.
