History
You have the opportunity to explore the nature of the modern world – the forces that have shaped our past and present, and the ways historians interpret historical events. Themes covered include the world in the twentieth century, war and peace, modernisation and social change, colonialism, and gender. You will graduate with 200 hours of practical experience, preparing you to provide personalised support to clients tailored to their unique circumstances. Through practical learning opportunities, you will learn how to apply complex counselling theories to identify and address emotional issues, using cognitive behaviour therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and other talking therapies.

Complement your theoretical learning with 240 hours of valuable placement experience, where you will engage with clients of diverse backgrounds and age groups. Your placement hours will include autonomous direct client contact, non-contact activities, supervised training, as well as collaboration with other mental health professionals, preparing you to work in supervisory, leadership, and managerial roles.

The information technology industry is central to the way we work, learn, play, communicate and socialise. Build a solid foundation for your future career with core IT skills suitable across multiple industries. During Deakin’s Bachelor of Information Technology, you will gain the essential skills and experience required to embark on a career in IT, while developing specialist knowledge in an industry-relevant major study area of your choosing.

This course will give you the opportunity to explore and experiment in areas like programming, networking, entrepreneurship and user-centred design. You will undertake a specialised capstone project and access co-working spaces, enabling you to collaborate with like-minded peers and kickstart your own professional network. An honours year is available for high-achieving students interested in undertaking a focused research project.

Networking and Cloud Computing
Students undertaking a study of this major will learn the concepts and technologies used in Cloud Computing including virtualisation, networks, and cloud systems. The major will allow students to develop the expertise required to construct software solutions using public and private cloud infrastructure.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Expertise in biology and the science behind disease puts you in a position to make a real difference. Explore early diagnosis, disease progression and prognosis, and the role of pharmaceutical science in the treatment of disease and improved health.

You will obtain crucial industry experience through 80 to 160 hours of work placement. Not only will you be getting hands-on with the latest tools and facilities, you will also develop valuable professional networks and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a biomedical scientist.

Environmental Health
Environmental Health deals with many factors in our natural and built environment that affects human health. You will learn how microorganisms and toxic substances interact with biological systems and how this leads to clinical effects. Risks to healthy environments in urban, industrial, agricultural and/or natural settings will be evaluated using epidemiology, toxicology and statistics. You will also learn about risk assessment and risk management through policy, legislation, and integration of risk management with environmental management principles. This major is recommended for students interested in working in public health policy, environmental health and related areas.

Gain a broad understanding of all major areas of the law while exploring the underlying reasons behind criminal behaviour.
