When you study visual arts at RMIT, you'll create a professional folio of work.

This diploma is taught by practicing artists in real studio environments. All our staff are practitioners with national and international reputation in the arts. This enables them to connect you to work on projects with industry, other practicing artists, and galleries.

This diploma offers both practical and theoretical subjects, which have been developed in conjunction with the arts industry. It is designed to prepare you for a career in the visual arts or other related creative fields.

On completion of the first year, you can transition to the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. This is also a one-year qualification, which allows you to further investigate your creative practice with a more specialised focus.

A major focus is the production of a professional folio of work that reflects your personal creativity. The folio will display a sequential development, with emphasis on the acquisition of skills and the adaptation of those skills to the production of artworks with a sound personal philosophical base.

This diploma has a strong focus on exhibition practice and providing practical experience in the arts industry. You will undertake independent studio practice and develop a wide-range of highly specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and knowledge.

Industrial designers have the ability to affect change and create powerful solutions that improve both human and environmental health and wellbeing.

Exploring the trans-disciplinary nature of contemporary industrial design. You'll engage in practical learning through our practice-based design studios, co-creating solutions through a human centred approach to product, service and experience design contexts.

For over 70 year’s industrial design at RMIT has offered aspiring designers ground breaking experiences through technical, theoretical and applied immersions into the diverse and dynamic fields of industrial design practice. Working on real-world problems in industry and community contexts, this hands on educational experience culminates in a year-long honours design research project. 

You will develop a design practice through:

Construction is not just about building sites, but about building a bigger picture: the planning, coordination, and control of a project from inception to delivery.

In this diploma, you'll examine the principles, techniques and regulations of the building and construction industry for all types of medium-rise and wide-span buildings up to 25 metres high.

This practical curriculum incorporates hands-on work and project-based learning. You'll experience many aspects of building projects and understand how they all relate to each other. You’ll go on site excursions to gain hands-on field experience which will include visits to residential and commercial construction projects.

Graduates have the option to continue further studies in construction, project management, or property services with RMIT.

Acknowledged by the national and international architectural profession, the Bachelor of Architectural Design is designed to help you develop a rich understanding of architecture, and build a diverse set of skills that will carry you through your career.

RMIT's Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) (Honours) offers you the chance to specialise in engineering fields critical to solving the world’s environmental challenges. Land contamination and rehabilitation, energy, hydrogeology, wastewater treatment, and sustainable cities are strong focus areas.

During your environmental studies, you’ll learn engineering concepts and technical skills to:

This degree is designed for professionals currently working or looking to work in the field of project management. It is particularly relevant for professionals looking to take the next step in their career.

This degree emphasises the practical application of theory to develop your capacity to respond to current and emerging issues and trends. You will critically engage with project management theory and best practice principles, and evaluate and implement project management strategies using real world project based cases and examples.

With a strong vocational focus, the Master of Justice and Criminology provides you with the advanced skills and knowledge to effectively perform as a justice professional.

This degree is designed for students wishing to enter a career in the justice system, as well as for those already working in the industry who wish to update and extend their knowledge. Some subjects are offered online, giving you the flexibility to design a study plan to meet your needs.

Graduates will enhance their career opportunities in the justice sector and related fields including policing, customs, corrections and the courts.

This Qualification has been superseded by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment and will change in 2023.

You can still apply for this program and you will be supported to transfer into the new qualification once it becomes available. This may result in changes to the program structure, content and fees.

In this advanced diploma course, you’ll gain the practical and technical skills to work with civil engineers on the design and construction of infrastructure projects.

The Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Civil Engineering Design) also provides a pathway to an engineering degree.

Civil and structural engineering involves the design and construction of roads, airports, railways, buildings, bridges, dams and drainage systems.

You’ll develop skills:

• Using computer-aided drafting (CAD) software to produce detailed drawings, plans and designs for construction work
• Doing cost estimates and preparing material specifications
• Liaising with construction workers and project managers
• Inspecting completed works to ensure they meet specifications and regulations
• Conducting laboratory and/or field testing of materials, soil and water quality.

The Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) (Honours) supports and develops your capacity as a practicing artist and active researcher in the field of contemporary art.

This degree is designed for students who have successfully completed a three-year degree in contemporary art or craft, or an equivalent field, and who wish to undertake a further year of study to focus exclusively on an individual project.

At this level of study, you will engage with high-level intensive subjects, deepening and enriching your practice through expertise, knowledge and criticality.

You will be guided through personalised mentorship and individual supervision, as you are introduced to practice-led research and research methodologies.

A flexible curriculum provides opportunities for you to develop an individual project and to further your knowledge and capability for professional or highly skilled art practice, and/or further learning at a postgraduate level.
