The Bachelor of Science Advanced (Honours) caters for students who have demonstrated outstanding potential in the field of science. This degree follows the Bachelor of Science degree, giving you the opportunity to engage in research early by taking one Advanced Studies course each trimester.

You'll undertake a major research project and be individually guided and mentored by one or more of our outstanding scientific researchers. In your final year, you'll complete an honours project in your chosen specialisation. This is the opportunity to hone your skills and demonstrate your research ability under the eyes of a leading science researcher. The Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Science is an 80 credit point program that provides an alternative route for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program for applicants who do not possess the required qualifications for direct admission.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for admission to MPhil or PhD candidature subject to fulfilment of requirements for candidature as specified in the Higher Degree Research policy and successful completion of the confirmation procedure. The grade achieved will determine entry to either a PhD or MPhil candidature.

The Program Director will be responsible for the overall supervision of the student and monitoring their progress throughout the program.

Students may choose to exit the Graduate Diploma program (after successfully completing the specified courses) with the Graduate Certificate in Research Studies in Science.

To be awarded a Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree, one additional year of study is required following the successful completion of the Bachelor of Nursing.

In your first year, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science - anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, genes and disease, law and ethics, microbiology, physiology, and epidemiology. You will also undertake a course in "interpersonal skills" which provides you with knowledge and skills in communication and interaction with patients.

In second year, you will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in immunology, infectious disease, pharmacology, metabolism, structural biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as undertaking a capstone course (Integrated Medical Sciences) which integrates and applies the knowledge of basic sciences learned in your first and second years to solving clinical problems.

You’ll study some of society’s most intriguing issues along with the techniques to analyse them and devise break-through solutions. Climate change is an example of a contemporary challenge that can’t be solved by 'pure' science alone. Solutions will come from people who can not only interpret the data but also understand the need for social impact studies, policy development, and effective public communication. Social scientists work in these intersecting spaces, which is why they are in high-demand across government departments, creative industries, political parties, the business sector, in think tanks and non-government organisations (NGOs).

You don’t need prior knowledge of statistical research methods as you’ll study core courses that will develop your skills in analysing social policy and data, along with your two majors. Each of the majors represents a different perspective on the challenges of the future and allow you to develop areas of expertise that can open doors to a broad range of careers. There are also opportunities to undertake an internship in an area of your interest, and join a global study tour.

In this degree, you'll develop the expertise to investigate and identify current and future cyber security threats, conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of networked devices and infrastructure, and generate and implement innovative cyber security solutions.
