The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies is accredited by the Actuaries Institute and includes the option to choose a specialisation to diversify your future career as a business professional. You’ll develop a specialist quantitative skill set in actuarial models, financial maths, probability, machine learning/AI analytics, and commerce. Graduates of Actuarial Studies at UNSW are in high demand. After three-years, you’ll be ready for quantitative roles in a range of industries including financial services, insurance and superannuation.

Integrated design
Integrated designers place people at the heart of their work. Drawing from diverse design skills and methods, integrated designers engage with a range of materials, encounters, and forms of visual communication in their everyday lives. Integrated designers create insightful solutions using critical thinking, research, making skills and an awareness of industry needs.

The integrated design specialisation strongly focuses on solutions that respect human diversity and environmental sustainability while building skills in multiple areas of design. You'll choose at least two of these areas from graphic design, object design, textiles, experiences, interaction (UX), and 3D visualisation.

We'll introduce you to this range of design disciplines, starting with the fundamentals. Working in state-of-the-art studios, you'll build core skills grounded in deep reflection on diverse historical, social, cultural and technological values.

Start by choosing two design study areas outlined below, then decide which program structure suits your goals. (See 'Program structure' for more information.)

Graphics
Graphic design uses the skills of typography, image making, colour and design systems to develop effective and inspiring visual communications. Apply creative thinking to brand identities, innovative packaging, visually striking publications, and graphic design in 3D spaces. You’ll develop strong portfolio projects that demonstrate your voice as an emerging designer. 

Object
Object design works with different materials to create tangible and meaningful items – including but not limited to jewellery, furniture and ceramic design.

Fundamental hands-on classes explore materials before moving on to digital prototypes with 3D printing and cast designs. You’ll also understand different contexts and discover how object design gives people opportunities for social and meaningful interactions.

Textiles
Textiles tell stories and solve problems, whether applied to fashion, interior, exterior or product contexts. In this highly experimental program, you'll explore creative approaches to making meaningful materials. Journey through hands-on textile making traditions and contemporary technologies to develop your own innovative practice. You will gain knowledge in sustainability and social engagement to analyse contemporary issues, and learn how to respond to professional design briefs responsibly, ethically and with cultural acknowledgement.

Experience
Experience designers transform spaces for people. They design memorable and meaningful environments with the intention of creating connection. Be it social connection or the connection of audiences to content, experience designers draw on human centred design principles to develop unique spatial outcomes, understand and integrate digital technologies and craft atmospheres that move people. With application across a wide range of industries, the design of activations, exhibitions and events relies on critical engagement with cultural contexts, neuroscience, materials and modelling, with a sprinkling of spectacle.

In this program, you'll experiment with a diverse range of design methods that contribute to a practice that ideates and creates evocative environments that surprise, delight and, ultimately, engage participants.

Interaction
Explore fascinating emerging smart technologies – think voice assistants, robots, and mixed reality (for example, animated Instagram or Snapchat filters). Using these emerging technologies, you'll create a project demonstrating your understanding of human capabilities and user needs. But not before learning User Experience (UX) fundamentals in web and mobile.

Gain industry standard skills to meet people's needs with designing apps, software, products, websites, environments, and services. You'll develop practical and professional design processes through case studies and projects from concept to testing. 

3D Visualisation
Discover the world of 3D technologies including real-time (or gaming) systems and virtual environments. Understand how to create objects and environments before creating a sophisticated and explorable 3D world. Learn through live, hands-on experiences of key technologies and understand how to conceptualise through design thinking. Build the theoretical knowledge for high-level art direction while developing professional skills in 3D modelling, CGI lighting and rendering.

The Master of Health Leadership and Management (Extension)/Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence degree enables you to specialise in both infectious disease intelligence and health management and develop research skills and apply them while undertaking a scholarly project.

You will be provided with advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills to undertake infectious diseases prevention and control, and health services management roles in government, community and health service settings in Australia and internationally. The degree will equip you with the specialised skills and leadership needed for professional practice in control of infectious diseases and for research and evidence based professional practice.

The program fosters judgment-ready practitioners who can contribute to improving population health and work across a range of contexts including ministries and departments of health, government and non-government and voluntary organisations, primary care and community healthcare services in both public and private sectors.

Enhance your professional knowledge and gain a competitive edge in the aviation industry with the Master of Aviation Management. This program is designed for students who have a university degree and relevant industry experience. It will equip you with essential skills and knowledge in the fields of science, engineering, interpersonal relations, the environment and management. You’ll explore law and regulations, safety and security, airline and airport management, technical operations and aviation economics.

The UNSW Master of Laws (LLM) is a one-year full-time postgraduate degree that offers you the opportunity to develop an advanced and contemporary understanding of one or more areas of legal study, acquire further expertise and enhance your career prospects.

International Law
International law occupies an ever-growing role in our lives, whether it is about big issues like refugee protection or small issues like online shopping. This specialisation will provide you with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the international legal system, the workings of international politics and their effect on each other. You'll acquire an advanced level of knowledge and analytical ability about the issues, problems and conduct of international law. 

This Master of Laws specialisation draws on the excellence offered by UNSW Law & Justice, where our academic staff (not to mention visiting lecturers and guest presenters) provide top-level teaching and guidance. Our academic staff often advise governments, the United Nations and other international organisations on a range of legal issues. At UNSW, you will have your classes with leaders in the field in both academia and the reality of international law.

The Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Media is a four-year double degree that shows you how to enlighten others with creative thinking and persuasive communications. Learn strategies to interest, inform, and inspire others while challenging conventions and designing new solutions to old problems.  

Whether your interest is in graphics, textiles, visualisation or object design, creating spaces or user experiences, rethinking everyday products and services, or writing code to develop future focused design ideas – you'll see how design can influence the future.

Blend your creative insight with influential skills in public relations and advertising, communications and journalism, screen production, cinema studies, or media studies. You'll build real industry knowledge, learning from experts in practical and theoretical classes. And with solid opportunities for work experiences, you’ll unlock the expertise needed to establish a career far beyond your first job.

Cinema Studies (Major)
Specialising in cinema studies as part of your Bachelor of Media at UNSW will equip you with the theoretical, historical, and cultural frameworks to understand how and why moving image cultures continue to shape global media industries.

By studying the historical, social, economic, and political contexts of cinema, you’ll engage in forms of film analysis that apply critically informed and ethically based approaches to the art and industry of moviemaking.

The Master of Clinical Optometry combines the theoretical discipline of vision science with the clinical art of primary eye care.

We rely heavily on our five senses to navigate life: touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. Each of these senses play a vital role in our day-to-day lives. Problems with eyesight can have a profound impact on an individual’s life. Through optometry, many vision problems and eye diseases can be corrected or managed, restoring sight to people from all walks of life.

Optometrists diagnose vision problems, eye diseases and other eye health issues. These highly skilled professionals correct poor vision and manage or slow degenerative eye diseases with corrective lenses, optical aids, therapy or medication.

The Master of Clinical Optometry is a two-year degree that serves as a pathway to registered practice as an optometrist in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia. It combines the theoretical discipline of vision science, the optics of lenses and instruments, the physiology of the eye, the psychophysics of vision and neuroscience with the clinical art of primary eye care, which covers the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, the dispensing of spectacles and contact lenses, the management of people with special needs (children, low vision), sports vision and vision in the workplace.

Studying this unique double degree, you’ll graduate with a distinct combination of quantitative and modelling skills from Actuarial Studies with methodological insights from your specialisation in Science.

You’ll also develop a specialist quantitative skill set in actuarial models, financial mathematics, probability, machine learning / artificial intelligence analytics, and commerce.

The Bachelor of Science allows you to choose from 26 majors across the physical, natural and human sciences. It gives you the flexibility to explore the areas of science you’re passionate in and design a degree that suits your goals.

Both courses equip you with highly transferable skills in analytical, logical and critical thinking that can be applied across diverse industries and sectors around the world, combined with unique expertise your distinct disciplines.

This double degree is designed for students who want to pursue a career in biomedical engineering through the technical base of materials science and engineering. It focuses on the development, processing and application of materials used in many areas of biomedical engineering.

A biomedical engineer can look at a medical problem and analyse it in engineering terms to find a solution. Materials science is the underlying science of high-performance materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites.

You'll learn theoretical and practical skills that will put you at the forefront of innovation in developing systems to maintain and enhance life, as well as how to design body parts or tissues, develop artificial organs, improve robotic surgery, invent health technologies and more. It involves a four-year Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science (Honours) and a Master of Biomedical Engineering in the fifth year.

UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. Both degrees offer flexibility, allowing you to shape your degree to match your ambitions and interests.

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. By combining your BCom with a Bachelor of Arts, you can choose from a diverse range of majors and subjects in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You'll develop an in-depth knowledge and breadth of understanding, gaining the tools to think critically, communicate effectively and conduct independent research.
