Environmental Law and Sustainable Development
Environmental protection and the quest for sustainable development that can meet the needs of both present and future generations have become pressing common concerns at the national and the international level. In past decades, national and international law has developed a wide range of sector-specific and creative cross-cutting approaches to respond to these challenges. 

This Master of Laws specialisation will provide you with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the environmental legal system, the frameworks of and tools for sustainable environmental management, and the complex policy issues presented by the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Environmental law encompasses a wide and diverse range of issues: energy, climate change, biodiversity conservation, water and oceans, agriculture, finance and international development, but also (and especially in Australia, as one of the world’s most urban nations) issues like city planning, commons, platform and sharing economies, transport, housing and corporate social responsibility. 

You'll acquire the skills and understanding needed to address the ‘wicked problems’ posed by environmental sustainability challenges and be equipped to pursue a career in environmental law and environmental policy. The specialisation draws on UNSW Law & Justice academics and visitors nationally and internationally recognised as experts in the field.

Combine your interest in mathematics with engineering. Choose from a wide range of engineering specialisations, from traditional disciplines such as civil engineering and electrical engineering, through to those tailored to modern challenges, such as renewable energy engineering. Pairing this with the advanced mathematics degree allows you to gain a deep understanding of the mathematics and statistics that underpin all engineering. In this double degree, you will have access to advanced facilities combined with innovative teaching.

The engineering degree is designed to equip you for a career as a professional engineer, where you will get the chance to apply yourself to engineering design and enquiry projects, professional engineering practice, engineering and technical management, and research. The advanced mathematics component involves advanced coursework with an honours-level research project.

The Master of Global Health (Extension) provides you with the advanced knowledge and technical capacities to contribute to disease control, health promotion, health services development and public health research across a wide range of populations and countries. It fosters sophisticated knowledge and skills that can be applied to a broad range of highly complex public health issues in global health.

This degree also includes a research project which will cultivate your critical thinking and communication skills as you explore contemporary health issues globally. You will be equipped with specialised professional skills needed for research and professional practice to work globally in health departments, with government and non-government organisations (NGOs), and with international and bilateral aid agencies in both the public and private sectors.

The Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE)/Law draws together the perspectives of four crucial academic disciplines to address professional demands, global trends and contemporary social issues, such as justice, inequality and climate change.

Alongside courses from the disciplines of Politics & International Relations, Philosophy, and Economics, the UNSW PPE degree explores the synergies and tensions between these fields and trains you to assess their relevance in meeting humanity's most complex challenges.

Your Law degree will complement your PPE studies as you develop a thorough understanding of legal frameworks, processes and systems alongside a wide range of experiential learning opportunities. You’ll gain exceptional skills that stand out to employers with practical experience, including mooting, an internship or clinical program, or international exchange.

The Master of Actuarial Studies (Extension) equips you with the data analytics and quantitative risk management training for success in an actuarial career, or a career in finance.

The extension program adds four courses to the Master of Actuarial Studies. This allows you to complete the professionally accredited courses to become an actuary, as well as to broaden your knowledge through electives in actuarial studies, risk management, business, or options in mathematics and in computer science. The program is accredited by the Actuaries Institute.

The program has also earned the University-Earned Credit (UEC) program status for Financial Mathematics (FM) exam and Statistics for Risk Modelling (SRM) exam. This UEC program facilitates the pathway for students who pursue the Society of Actuaries (SOA) profession by providing opportunities to earn credit for SOA exams.

You’ll learn to apply advanced analytical techniques, deliver highly valued data analytics, and actionable insights. You’ll also develop a specialist quantitative skill set in actuarial models, financial mathematics, probability, machine learning / artificial intelligence analytics, and commerce.
