Property

The Property major equips you with the expert skills to create a career as a property specialist. You will be prepared to succeed in a range of roles in the property industry, including careers in valuation, property investment, property funds management and property development.

The practical Property major units focus on the property investment, business, planning and law, with opportunities for engagement with industry, dependent on availability. If you are seeking professional accreditation, you will also undertake specialised units in building and statutory and specialised valuation.

The core units in the Bachelor of Business will provide you with a foundation of business knowledge and develop your skills in innovation, career planning, and numeracy. The Property major builds on this knowledge and skills in an applied discipline based context.

Property specialists work for institutional investors with multi-billion dollar commercial property portfolios, major property companies, valuation firms and leading property advisory companies, both in Australia and overseas.

The Bachelor of Business (Property) is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API) and depending on electives chosen, students may be eligible for API Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) certification. Students, depending on chosen electives, are also eligible for API certifications of Certified Property Practitioner, Certified Property Manager, Certified Asset Manager and Certified Development Practitioner. Note: Accreditation is currently being sought for program 6037 Diploma in Business/Bachelor of Business.

This unique engineering program also includes the WSU-UNSW Collaborative Program, offered exclusively to the Electrical, Mechanical and Robotics and Mechatronics majors within the Bachelor of Engineering Advanced (Honours) program.Challenge yourself to be the best.The Bachelor of Engineering Advanced (Honours) is designed to meet Engineers Australia professional accreditation requirements. Focus on a discipline area by selecting a major in Advanced Manufacturing, Civil, Construction, Materials, and Sustainability Engineering, or join the WSU-UNSW Collaborative Program by selecting a major in Electrical, Mechanical or Robotic & Mechatronics. In addition, you can further specialise by selecting a minor from a wide range of recommended subject sets that will complement your chosen discipline.

Construction Engineering

Construction Engineering consists of core subjects in structural engineering, project management and construction technologies. Graduates will work in the fields of construction, structural design, and project management. Career opportunities include those in the private or public sector on projects covering highways, airports, and residential & commercial buildings.

The education you will gain in this program builds the necessary knowledge base for working in employment relations, but the emphasis is knowledge in action, as inspired by the Australia Human Resource Institute’s capabilities for HR professionals and Western Sydney Graduate Attributes designed to bring knowledge to life.

Students acquire the skills, knowledge and understanding of the challenges of managing people strategically in complex and turbulent environments. The program equips graduates with the ability to analyse and address a changing business environment, appropriate for careers in Australia and internationally.

This program aims to equip students with knowledge of the theoretical aspects that underpin interpreting and translation, including linguistics, and with the research techniques necessary to conduct a small research project in the area of interpreting and translation.

It also focuses on practical interpreting and translation skills. The program is suitable for practising interpreters and translators and for very proficient bilinguals wanting to develop or improve their skills, and who wish to contribute to the body of knowledge on interpreting and translation by conducting innovative, much needed research.

Economics

The Economics major provides a broad pluralist perspective on fundamental aspects of relationships between individuals, firms, institutions and countries.

Students will learn how economies function and how public policy and the way organisations behave affect diverse social, economic and environmental problems. Students are introduced to a wide array of competing economic theories, so that they are critically informed about the ways in which they can transform the world.

A major in Economics prepares students to be active participants in addressing the wide range of problems faced by governments, social organisations and the business community in the domestic and international economies.

Students who study economics can expect to develop their analytical and problem solving skills and to be intellectually challenged, whether they view the discipline as providing specific vocational skills or as an area of academic and intellectual interest to them.

An Economics major is very highly regarded in the business world and opens up a very large range of career prospects in general business, finance and the public sector.

The Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) program prepares you for the profession with a new culture of learning supported by a user/student-centered approach, competency learning, design studio-project based learning, applied design research and innovation.

With a shorter time span between thinking and making graduates in industrial design need to create and innovate by adding value to experiences and interaction, products, businesses and systems.

They are thinker-makers and design entrepreneurs, self-starters and all-rounders that can figure out and problem-solve ambiguity. You will need to work independently or in collaboration with others in new product development teams, user experience and interaction, product service systems, production and manufacturing.

The program culminates in a final year industrial design project intending to develop visionary work leading to industry placement, Masters or PhD research place of design in society and its effect on people, the environment and the economy, and provides you with the ability to work alone or collaboratively.

Design Practice

This major has a focus on change, digital innovation and incorporates simulation and incubators for students who wish to pursue a corporate design role, or build their own start-up business generating new value and driving dynamic careers.

Accounting jobs today require expertise and the ability to communicate effectively. By studying the Master of Professional Accounting program you will be provided the opportunity to think critically and communicate effectively whilst engaging with the community through industry partnerships.

The Master of Professional Accounting is an accredited graduate conversion program. It provides opportunities for applicants holding a degree (recognised as equivalent to an Australian three year undergraduate degree) in any discipline, other than an accredited accounting major, to complete the pre-entry educational requirements for CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

The program delivers a contemporary education in accounting principles and procedures supported by knowledge of associated disciplines of law, economics and finance. During this program you will learn how to apply accounting concepts, theories and models through a range of individual and collaborative means, including industry relevant projects and realistic business problems.

Materials

Since the dawning of mankind an understanding of how materials can be obtained and used has been critical to successful human endeavour. Materials engineers are concerned with the highly technological and dynamic process of understanding, developing, and applying materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) to a range of engineering problems. Students will develop skills necessary to synthesise relevant information so that they can be effective decision makers in a materials context. These skills will serve them well in varied career opportunities associated with biomedical devices, nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, opto-electronics, energy, aerospace, and sustainable construction.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is designed for students with interests in learning to address humanity’s issues and challenges through the development and deployment of technical solutions.

This program spans all major engineering domains and prioritises industry relevance via an emphasis on work integrated learning to ensure students are career-ready on graduation. Human society is facing ever increasing challenges from changing climate, expanding populations and industrial development. Traditional approaches to solve environmental problems needs rethinking and should consider circular economy, life cycle thinking, climate smartness, digitisation. In this Major, students assess various challenges in provision of water, food, infrastructure and energy then propose design solutions using holistic, futuristic and sustainable technologies and strategies. Through hands-on, real-life projects, students explore solutions that integrate technical, technological (IoT), social, cultural, geographical, regulatory and ethical factors. This major will benefit students aiming for careers such as Environmental Engineer/Scientist/Consultant, Natural Resources Manager, Waste Engineer/Manger/ Consultant, and Sustainability Engineer/ Manager/ Consultant.
