A Master of Translation and TESOL from Western lets you transform your English language ability into a desirable and marketable skill, and qualifies you to teach English as a second language. Subject to demand, Western offers majors in Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese and Spanish. This program also provides practical and theoretical training in interpreting and translation, including linguistics. Equips you with the research skills necessary to conduct a small research project in your area of interest.

Upgrade your skills in a fully accredited professional Engineering program. Gain the required knowledge and degree to stay on top in a dynamic environment, with majors in civil, environmental, mechanical, electrical, telecommunications or mechatronic engineering.

Western’s streamlined Master of Engineering can be completed in two years to get you fully qualified and progressing your career sooner. This degree is taught at our innovative Parramatta City Campus, and enables you to pursue a major from our broad set of engineering fields.

Completion of this program will prepare you for a dynamically developing and changing technological environment, allowing you to stay at the forefront of the engineering world.

Graduates of this program will emerge with provisional accreditation at the Professional Engineer level by Engineers Australia, and gain access to the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering located at Western Sydney University.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics (and robotics) provides the skills necessary for the design of smart machines of all types: cruise control in automobiles, pilotless spacecraft, automated factories and medical telerobotics. The program, accompanied by an extensive and integrated hands-on laboratory program, is essentially concerned with the design of intelligent mechanical systems and automation, and includes the study of robotics, computer control, automated manufacturing, microprocessor applications and machine design. Graduates in the program acquire the combined skills of mechanical and computer/electrical engineering that are needed in leading-edge industries such as aerospace systems, the car industry, automation and robotic applications, biomedical engineering, laser systems, and building materials manufacture.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is designed for students with interests in learning to address humanity’s issues and challenges through the development and deployment of technical solutions.

This program spans all major engineering domains and prioritises industry relevance via an emphasis on work integrated learning to ensure students are career-ready on graduation. In addition to becoming technical experts in their chosen field of specialisation, students are also challenged to become collaborative and innovative problem solvers with an appreciation for the importance of sustainability and global citizenship.

Electrical Engineering 

The Electrical Engineering major includes core subjects from all branches of electrical engineering. Electrical Engineering program is one of the flagships of Western’s engineering whose core subjects such as Electrical Fundamentals, Power Electronics, Engineering Electromagnetics form the foundation for other programs such as Software Engineering and Biomedical Engineering program. Because of the vibrant and diverse offerings of Western’s engineering, its graduates will work in the fields of electronic components, computers, electro-magnetics, power generation and distribution systems, power and control in public utilities, telecommunications, manufacturing, and electrical systems.

Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management Major is designed for people who seek careers in human resource management and industrial relations.

Graduates’ careers focus on enhancing the value of human and social capital through supporting employee engagement for many different kinds of organisations, market-oriented and community-oriented organisations and many kinds of people. The teaching philosophy is based on knowledge in action, a fusion of the Australia Human Resource Institute’s capabilities for HR professionals and the Western Sydney University Graduate Attributes designed to secure success.

An aim of the program is to instil those values and attitudes that can support leaders in judgements about balancing the pursuit of organisational objectives with creating opportunities for developing people’s capacities and careers. The perspectives are local and international, with an emphasis on the value of cultural and demographic diversity. Graduates have knowledge of how leadership and management of people can support organisational objectives and create organisational opportunities.

This capacity comes from grounding in human resource management and industrial relations practice using contemporary law and research in applied projects. Students combine this with an education in the pressures organisations experience in inter-disciplinary subjects focused on money, markets and management. That is, graduates develop commercial acumen and appreciate the competing interests around work, aware of trends locally and internationally.

Operations management has firm foundations in supply chain management and logistics. This degree is designed to teach you about global trends in supply chain management and prepare you for senior operations management roles in both public and private sectors.

Develop an integrated and holistic approach to operations management, whilst gaining exposure to the latest research in sustainable practices in operations management, logistics, supply chain management and project management.

Our Master of Business (Operations Management) is an innovative program that equips you with the necessary skills to plan, implement, upgrade and manage business operations to enhance customer value and organisational effectiveness.

Property

The Property major equips you with the expert skills to create a career as a property specialist. You will be prepared to succeed in a range of roles in the property industry, including careers in valuation, property investment, property funds management and property development.

The practical Property major units focus on the property investment, business, planning and law, with opportunities for engagement with industry, dependent on availability. If you are seeking professional accreditation, you will also undertake specialised units in building and statutory and specialised valuation.

The core units in the Bachelor of Business will provide you with a foundation of business knowledge and develop your skills in innovation, career planning, and numeracy. The Property major builds on this knowledge and skills in an applied discipline based context.

Property specialists work for institutional investors with multi-billion dollar commercial property portfolios, major property companies, valuation firms and leading property advisory companies, both in Australia and overseas.

The Bachelor of Business (Property) is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API) and depending on electives chosen, students may be eligible for API Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) certification. Students, depending on chosen electives, are also eligible for API certifications of Certified Property Practitioner, Certified Property Manager, Certified Asset Manager and Certified Development Practitioner. Note: Accreditation is currently being sought for program 6037 Diploma in Business/Bachelor of Business.

This degree encompasses both the aid and health sectors with a focus on rehabilitation and development. This unique engineering program also includes the WSU-UNSW Collaborative Program, offered exclusively to the Electrical, Mechanical and Robotics and Mechatronics majors within the Bachelor of Engineering Advanced (Honours) program.Challenge yourself to be the best. The Bachelor of Engineering Advanced (Honours) is designed to meet Engineers Australia professional accreditation requirements. Focus on a discipline area by selecting a major in Advanced Manufacturing, Civil, Construction, Materials, and Sustainability Engineering, or join the WSU-UNSW Collaborative Program by selecting a major in Electrical, Mechanical or Robotic & Mechatronics. In addition, you can further specialise by selecting a minor from a wide range of recommended subject sets that will complement your chosen discipline.

Civil

Civil engineering covers the fields of structural design, geotechnical engineering and water engineering, together with infrastructure design and environmental engineering. Graduates may pursue career paths in the fields of design, construction and management of engineering structures and be associated with private industry, government departments, or in city, municipal or shire councils. These career paths may include engineering projects related to residential and commercial buildings, highways and airports, water supply and sewerage schemes.

The Graduate Diploma in Translation is suited to fluent bilinguals seeking a theoretical background as they acquire the high level skills necessary to practise as professional translators.
