Indigenous Australian Studies

The Indigenous Australian Studies Major offers students the exciting opportunity to acquire key cultural competencies that will enable them to understand and work more effectively with Indigenous Australians in professions such as the arts, communications, media industries; education; government and non-government; policy; health; sciences; and community services.

The Indigenous Australian Studies Major addresses the cultural, historical, social and economic issues affecting Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians and relationships.

The Bachelor of Medical Science prepares you for a career in a range of laboratory roles, as well as providing an avenue for further study including graduate research programs.

Human Nutrition

The Human Nutrition Major in within the Bachelor of Medical Science uses biology, chemistry and physiology to develop concepts in food and nutrient form and function in relation to human metabolism and physiology. This major takes students through the ingestion, digestion, absorption, storage and utilization of proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and trace element. Students learn how these nutrients can be managed with respect to appetite, exercise, health and disease as well as develop a wide range of laboratory and research skills. Students will also develop critical analytical skills to assess and implement recommendations for testing, monitoring and community education.

This program combines tourism, event management, social science, business and marketing subjects to prepare graduates for professional roles in tourism, events, and the visitor economy. Students can choose from a suite of majors, including: environmental management, event and festival management, heritage, marketing, place management, planning, sport and sustainability.

The program has been developed with industry to ensure students develop the skills and knowledge desired by employers. Students complete fieldwork, engage with industry and government stakeholders, and are provided with opportunities for international fieldtrips and placements. A final-year professional placement allows students to gain further industry experience and provides a stepping-stone into employment.

Sport, Event and Tourism

This major brings together sport, event and tourism management subjects to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to organise and manage sport and recreation events. Students will also learn about the social and cultural significance of sport, tourism and sporting events, and their unique role in the visitor economy.

When you graduate after four years, you have two degrees, and the unique skills relevant to the contemporary employment environment.

The Arts component combines academic knowledge with practical real life training. It is designed to equip you with a broad range of skills and knowledge in research and critical enquiry, and is sufficiently flexible to cater to a range of career aspirations and personal interests.

In the Creative Industries component you will combine a core of entrepreneurship with major studies including culture and society, creative writing, design, enterprise innovation, journalism, literature, media arts, music performance and photo media.

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design major provides students from outside the Design program with a comprehensive introduction to fundamental skills and knowledge in graphic design.

The major is delivered through a series of practice-based and theoretical units and you will study areas such as image design, contextual design studies, web design and branding.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to choose a practice-based specialisation from the areas of interactive design; digital design; illustration; and photomedia.

This is a double degree program that targets the wide application of information technology in Business providing a well rounded education in two disciplines.

International Business

Managers who are well versed in the needs of doing business internationally and who can exploit these opportunities will therefore play an integral role in any such corporation.

Law and the Creative Industries

The Law and the Creative Industries major equips you with specialised legal skills and knowledge to support your career in the creative industries in Australia.

In this major you will develop tailored, strategic knowledge to enable you to effectively contribute to business decision making and to appreciate the legal and regulatory challenges within the context of creative and innovative enterprises.

The units in this major focus on the fundamentals of Australian law, critique and analysis of law, contracts, torts, alternative dispute resolution and media law, with the option to also incorporate studies in competition and consumer law, intellectual property and law within the employment context. The legal and regulatory focus of this major will provide you with specialised knowledge and skills designed to enhance your access to a range of careers within the creative industries sector. Students are advised that this specialisation does not qualify students for admission to legal practice in NSW. Students wishing to pursue a career in legal practice should apply for one of the relevant Bachelor of Laws courses. Along with the full suite of theory and practical knowledge that will enable you to develop a broad-based view of how the construction industry operates, you also complete a suite of work-integrated learning units where you’ll have the opportunity to work with agreed industry partners.

This double degree provides you with the practical skills and knowledge required to excel in the fields of both accounting and law. The Bachelor of Accounting degree will equip students to think creatively, apply innovative solutions to everyday problems, and the know-how to develop trusting, long-lasting business relationships.

The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.

The Bachelor of Laws provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will also develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.

In this program you will develop professional legal skills, including the ability to analyse and interpret legal material, understand fundamental legal principles, the relationship between law and society, and solve non-legal problems.You can tailor study for career paths in a variety of local and international law fields.

The program meets the undergraduate academic requirements for admission to legal practice through the Legal Profession Admission Board and also satisfies the current pre-admission educational requirements for registration as a practicing accountant. Areas of focus include the development of anthropology as a discipline; globalisation and culture; power and politics; gender and sexuality; identity and belonging; ethnography and ethnographic methods; indigenous peoples and nation states. Specific attention is given to cultures of Australasia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and to cross cultural interactions, at both global and local levels.

The major seeks to equip students with multi-cultural knowledge as well as to provide a thorough grounding in research methods and ethics with utility in a variety of professional and academic contexts.
