This exciting program is intended for those interested in a career in medicine or biomedical research. The program is offered jointly by the Departments of Biological Sciences and Health Sciences and is focused on the molecular basis of human health.

It draws on the expertise of the Department of Health Sciences in the medical aspects of human health and the Department of Biological Sciences in the theory, methods and applications of molecular genetics.

You’ll be exposed to subjects such as human physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, microbiology, biochemistry and genetics. You’ll receive excellent preparation for biomedical research careers in emerging areas such as human genetics and molecular biology.

Brock University offers the first Bachelor of Public Health degree in Canada and equips the students with the skills and knowledge required to manage the upcoming issues in Public health, learn about the social, environmental and biological determinants of health issues and explore disease prevention and health promotion strategies.

The students study chronic and emerging health issues, and diseases in the developing and developed countries and the program focuses on the health and wellness of the individual, the community and the population as a whole with emphasis on health policy, health administration, health promotion and health programming and evaluation.

The program offers multiple opportunities to the students for internships with community partners, international study placements, self-directed study, research experiences and internships where they can apply their skills to developing public health programs and policies, conducting health research and planning, implementing, and managing disease prevention and health promotion programs.

Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

Hearing Sciences: Learn about basic science and communication processes, including the anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing, acoustics, linguistics, child language development and selected disorders of human communication. Concentrate in Hearing Sciences and learn about sound, hearing, and hearing disorders, and prepare for admission to graduate audiology programs

Biophysics is the physics of life, of all living systems and their interaction with their surroundings, both natural and artificial. It is a rapidly advancing field, encompassing a wide variety of areas in natural and life sciences.

Biophysics uses all methods of scientific inquiry — theory, experiment and large-scale computer simulation — to understand living systems at the molecular level.

Biophysics also forms the basis of many aspects of medical physics, another rapidly developing field in much demand right now.

Brock’s Biophysics program will provide you with a superb learning environment and exciting research opportunities. Extended research opportunities are available through Brock’s participation in the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG), based at the University of Guelph.

This program is an innovative answer to your demands as an international student, as it combines an intensive Business English program with Canadian accounting knowledge and also addresses the demands of a business world that needs accountants who can think critically, communicate effectively and respond to challenges that arise from around the globe. Your success as an MPAcc grad is due to our focus on a strong, integrative approach to accounting.

Brock has the oldest — and one of the most distinguished — film studies programs in Canada. The program focuses on critical and historical courses that examine a variety of approaches to film and related media.

Most courses include weekly film screenings to introduce you to all kinds of cinema. Studying a wide range of films provides a thorough understanding of the medium for future filmmakers, critics and teachers. There are optional courses in video production, and you may become involved in the Brock University Film Series (BUFS) and/or Brock TV.

We are ranked highly among undergraduate Canadian universities in medical and science research grants. You’ll have access to modern labs and the teaching and research knowledge of professors who have received provincial, national and international acclaim for their work.

Lectures, laboratories and field studies will introduce you to the breadth of Biological Sciences, after which you can design your program from courses in biochemistry; cell biology; developmental biology; animal, plant and microbial physiology; genetics; molecular biology; neurobiology; ecology; animal behaviour and bioinformatics.

Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL): Learn how second language learning is different from first language learning, and prepare to teach ESL in different contexts. Learn about advanced theory and practice of second language learning and teaching, and complete a major research paper in our MA Applied Linguistics/TESL program.

The Earth Sciences program trains geoscientists — scientists who study the Earth and other planets in order to better understand their origin and history.

We know the Earth’s history reasonably well, and that knowledge has helped us to discover natural resources, such as oil and gas, economic minerals and metals, and to understand phenomena, such as global climate change and volcano and earthquake hazards. The geological knowledge derived from the Earth also helps us to better understand other solar system bodies. Two of our professors are planetary geologists, including Dr. Mariek Schmidt who is a member of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory Project that operates the rover Curiosity as it explores Gale Crater.

Brock’s program is designed to comply with the educational requirements for initial registration as a geoscientist-in-training, the licensing classification that leads to the PGeo designation established by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

Classics presents an integrated study of the worlds of ancient Greece and Rome in order to better understand the origins of many contemporary artistic and literary traditions and social institutions.

In Classics, we examine ancient languages, history, art and archaeology in ways that allow you to engage with the ancient world on many levels.

Our extensive experiential opportunities range from the preparation of ancient feasts to curatorial and archaeological experiences at Brock and overseas. In the summer, we offer courses on archaeological excavations and study tours in the Mediterranean region to explore ancient art and culture directly.

You may choose to specialize in one of the following areas:

• Ancient Art and Archaeology examines the culture of the ancient Mediterranean from the perspectives of anthropological archaeology and art history.
• Classical Civilization is an option for those interested in creating their own customized program of study in Classics. Courses in ancient Greek and Latin language are not required.
• Greek and Roman Studies combines the study of Greek and Roman history, religion and literature-in-translation.
