The study of Political Science aims to teach students how to focus on the ideas, institutions and processes that shape our lives, helping them to become better members and effective leaders of the Canadian political community.

In Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics and International Relations, you’ll examine power relationships and the organization of power within and among states. The study of Public Policy asks how policies are made and implemented in the complex machinery of government. Political Theory/ Philosophy asks how power ought to be organized and to what end.

Students wishing to pursue a pattern of studies that does not coincide with either a single major or a combined major program may choose either a Bachelor of Arts (Pass) Degree in General Studies or Bachelor of Science (Honours or Pass) Degree in General Studies.

At Brock, our teaching and research labs are combined. This means you’ll apply current techniques and technology to biochemical problems using the same state-of-the-art equipment that our professors use for their research.

The program begins with a set of core chemistry, cell biology and molecular biology courses. In Years 3 and 4, you may emphasize either biology or chemistry, choosing from courses in metabolism and energy flow, protein and enzyme action, macromolecular structures, information flow and molecular genetics, and bio-organic and biophysical chemistry.

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. You will study the anatomy and physiology of body movement, including issues related to the maintenance, rehabilitation or enhancement of movement and performance.

Our Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) degree emphasizes the biophysical, behavioural and socio-cultural aspects of kinesiology, including exercise prescription and rehabilitation, fitness programming and clinical assessment. This degree trains effective health professionals who will transfer scientific theory into practice.

A career-focused and multi-faceted approach to criminal behaviour, law, and the criminal justice system.

Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice (FPAC) offers an exciting opportunity to study criminal behaviour and criminal justice in a uniquely diverse way. Using the tools and perspectives of psychology, criminology, child and youth studies, and political science, students will learn about the individual, social, cultural, and systemic factors that influence criminal and aggressive behaviour, and the institutions that make up the criminal justice system.

Through either a four-year Major or Honours degree, FPAC prepares students for a variety of interesting and engaging careers, including law, corrections, counselling, policing, criminology, policy analysis and administration, and advocacy.

Students will work with dynamic, award-winning professors dedicated to teaching and research, and FPAC offers practicum opportunities to gain real-world experience with our community partners in law enforcement, forensic research, and clinical settings.

You’ll work with the very best faculty, artists and theatre professionals from Niagara, the GTA and beyond.

As part of the core, you will take courses that integrate theory and practice (praxis). These involve a mix of lectures and studio work that explore ways in which creativity and analysis are linked culturally and historically.

You may choose one of the following areas of concentration:

• Drama in Education and Applied Theatre explores theatre’s impact outside the traditional theatre space, including the ways drama and theatre activities enhance the learning process.
• Performance involves a core series of courses to actualize your potential as a stage actor.
• Production and Design prepares you for production work, crewing, design and other elements of technical theatre stagecraft.

Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL): Learn how second language learning is different from first language learning, and prepare to teach ESL in different contexts. Learn about advanced theory and practice of second language learning and teaching, and complete a major research paper in our MA Applied Linguistics/TESL program.

Environmental geoscientists apply their unique understanding of the Earth’s composition, structure and physical processes to protect the environment and predict geologic and hydrologic hazards.

New geoscientists, trained in environmental disciplines, are required to meet environmental and resource management challenges. Current trends suggest that in North America, employment in the environmental geoscience disciplines will grow faster than the average for other occupations.

Brock’s program is designed to comply with the educational requirements for licensing as a geoscientist-in-training, the licensing classification that leads to the PGeo designation, established by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

As a modern biotechnologist, you’ll study areas such as recombinant DNA technology, genetic and protein engineering, cell fusion, and gene cloning and expression.

Philosophy, defined as the pursuit of wisdom, encompasses the exploration of the nature of reality, consciousness, values, knowledge, reason, argument and evidence.

You’ll study not only the primary texts of the Western philosophical tradition, but also major texts of Indian and Chinese thought.

You’ll learn to be critical, reflective, thoughtful, skeptical, affirmative, knowledgeable, and, of course, wise. You’ll become a decision-maker, well trained for a variety of vocations, including law, public service and policy.
