Overview

This program is for those who have already completed a university degree. The program is four semesters, taken over two academic years, allowing students time to learn, reflect and grow as beginning teachers.
Completion of the program leads to a BEd degree and an Ontario Certificate of Qualification and Registration. Programs are at campuses in both St. Catharines and Hamilton.
Teacher Education programs at Brock embrace the integration of theory and practice.
Students are placed in partner schools very early in their program. They move through a planned course of study, including in excess of 80 days in Ontario classrooms. With a focus on pedagogy reflective of 21st century learners, Brock teacher candidates have opportunities to personalize their learning through optional professional development courses, and may qualify for an alternative placement experience in their final year.
Instruction in professional practice takes place under the supervision of practicum advisers, practicum instructors and associate teachers, working with teacher candidates
in schools throughout the Niagara and the greater Hamilton regions and beyond.

Primary/Junior program: Certifies to teach Kindergarten through Grade 6.
Junior/Intermediate program: Certifies to teach Grades 4 through 10, emphasizing elementary school.

At Brock, our teaching and research labs are combined. This means you’ll apply current techniques and technology to biochemical problems using the same state-of-the-art equipment that our professors use for their research.

The program begins with a set of core chemistry, cell biology and molecular biology courses. In Years 3 and 4, you may emphasize either biology or chemistry, choosing from courses in metabolism and energy flow, protein and enzyme action, macromolecular structures, information flow and molecular genetics, and bio-organic and biophysical chemistry.

We’ve teamed up with the School of Applied Computing and Engineering Sciences at Sheridan College to develop a program where you may complete your Brock degree and a three-year diploma in Telecommunications Technology from Sheridan College in just 4.5 years.

The program caters to the demand for professionals with a solid foundation in software development, as well as practical technical skills in system security, telecommunications, network analysis and administration.

You’ll spend three terms at Brock studying the foundations of computer science, followed by three terms at Sheridan College studying network communications in a hands-on environment. The final two terms alternate between Brock and Sheridan.

Classics presents an integrated study of the worlds of ancient Greece and Rome in order to better understand the origins of many contemporary artistic and literary traditions and social institutions.

In Classics, we examine ancient languages, history, art and archaeology in ways that allow you to engage with the ancient world on many levels.

Our extensive experiential opportunities range from the preparation of ancient feasts to curatorial and archaeological experiences at Brock and overseas. In the summer, we offer courses on archaeological excavations and study tours in the Mediterranean region to explore ancient art and culture directly.

You may choose to specialize in one of the following areas:

  • Ancient Art and Archaeology examines the culture of the ancient Mediterranean from the perspectives of anthropological archaeology and art history.
  • Classical Civilization is an option for those interested in creating their own customized program of study in Classics. Courses in ancient Greek and Latin language are not required.
  • Greek and Roman Studies combines the study of Greek and Roman history, religion and literature-in-translation.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science is suitable for people who wish to pursue a pattern of studies that don’t coincide with a combined major program or a single major. The program is available as a 15- credit degree and the requirement for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts (Pass) Degree Social Sciences is a minimum of 60 per cent overall average on completion of program requirements. The degree will carry no major or area concentration.
