Over the course of the two-year Bachelor of Education degree program, you will gain practical, hands-on experience through 20 weeks of practicum in a variety of Ontario classrooms. Whether you choose the primary/junior, junior/intermediate or intermediate/senior division, we will ensure that we provide you with placements that fulfill the requirements of your program and the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers.

In your second year, use the knowledge and skills you’ve acquired, in a 60-hour community leadership experience. You may choose to participate in an international or domestic practicum arranged by Nipissing University or focus your interests closer to home within Ontario. Previous international and domestic locations have included Costa Rica, Kenya, France, and Trois Pistoles, Quebec. Experiences within Ontario have included placements in organizations such as museums, outdoor education centres, and correction centres. Whether teaching internationally or working with a local organization, you will get to explore the teaching and learning opportunities that exist outside of traditional classrooms.

This degree program examines political topics that range from the foundations of international relations and foreign policy to Canadian politics.

The Political Science Program at Nipissing University offers courses of study in Political Theory, Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Public Administration.

If politics is a form of association directed towards what a community holds to be good - their common purpose - then political science is the reflective study on those various purposes as well as of the means or methods chosen to achieve them.

The Computer Science program provides a strong foundation in computer science theory and in its practical applications including neural networks, artificial intelligence, robotics, graphics, computer security, software engineering, and game design. You may choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science, or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Computer Science, based on your preference and the courses you choose. This will allow you to tailor your degree to be more applied or theoretical by selecting courses that align with your interests, and you will be supported by faculty who are genuinely interested in providing you with the skills to make your dreams a reality. You also have the option of simultaneously attaining a Certificate in Game Design and Development.

Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program is offered through an educational partnership with Canadore College. Classes are learner-centred, and are taught by skilled faculty from both schools.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program offers students a distinctive, collaborative education through its educational partnership with Canadore College. Classes take place in a student-centred learning environment with faculty from both institutions. Courses are taken at Nipissing University and Canadore College, both conveniently located on the same campus. Clinical experiences are provided at the new North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC), as well as agencies throughout the city, depending on the focus of the practicum. The NBRHC is located within comfortable walking distance of Nipissings main campus and residence complexes, and offers a convenient, accessible and state-of-the-art facility where you will gain valuable practical experience beginning in your first year.??

The BBA Degree is structured to provide students with general business knowledge and skills and the opportunity to acquire specialist knowledge and skills. In terms of general management knowledge, throughout the four years students move from introductory courses and learning how to apply business tools to more senior studies in creating competitive advantage through business strategy, entrepreneurship and change management. Some students choose to pursue breadth in their degree program (e.g. taking more ADMN courses and electives from the Humanities or Sciences) and do not select a stream, whereas others appreciate the opportunity to pursue more specialized expertise in the functional streams of accounting, economics, finance, marketing, organizational studies and technology management.
 

The Classical Studies program, offered as part of the Humanities, provides a broad understanding of Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations including their history, philosophy, archaeology, art, language and literature. You will be introduced to Ancient Literature, Latin, Religion, Military Traditions, Mythology, Philosophy, Art and Architecture, Social and Political Thought, and differing theories developed by various historians.

The Classical Studies degree program provides an excellent education in culture, history and language for people who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree, attending law school or considering a degree in teaching.

As a student registered with any of the three major areas of study in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Nipissing University (AHVS, Studio, and Film), you will have access to unique research and exhibition opportunities that foster professional development through exciting and interactive collaborative ventures with senior artists, gallery owners and community leaders. If you choose to study Sociology—the study of human societies—you’ll be entering into a fascinatingly broad discipline. You’ll explore the sociological influences of many topics like the family, workplace, education, medicine, demographics, and the criminal justice system. For a taste of that diversity, consider this: some of our professors study areas ranging from mental health issues in older offenders in the criminal justice system, to contraception and family planning in Iran, to Dokis First Nations, to palliative care!​

Thinking about a Major? Why not Major in Thinking? Rather than being concerned with a particular set of questions or a particular period of time, philosophy concerns itself with the nature of inquiry, thought, and argument itself, asking how each of these operates in the various areas of human life, from ethics and politics to the study of nature and reality. This means that philosophy students take up the truly big questions: What is the best life? Why should we be moral? How is knowledge possible? Is the world really as it appears to us? How does the mind work? At the same time, the skills students develop in pursuit of a degree in philosophy – careful reading, charitable interpretation and discussion, and rigorous argumentation – have proven themselves to be useful in innumerable fields within and beyond the university.

The Philosophy Program at Nipissing is small and student-focused: with an average of 35 full-time majors, students get to know and work closely with both their professors and their peers. The department is particularly committed to introducing students to the history of philosophy, from the ancient period to the present. The program is designed to work well either as a stand-alone degree or as a combined degree with other programs, and there are numerous philosophy courses offered each year that do not have prerequisites and that are popular electives for students in other programs.​
