In this one-of-a-kind program, you will undertake either a Bachelor of Arts Honours or a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Trent – Ontario’s #1 undergrad university, while also obtaining a law degree from Swansea University’s renowned Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law in the UK – no need to write the LSATs.

How the Program Works:-
The first two years of your degree take place at Trent, where you’ll pursue your choice of 14 degree options. In third year, you’ll transfer to the coastal city of Swansea in Wales to complete three years of law studies, earning your Bachelor of Laws degree. Once your LL.B. is complete, you’ll return to Trent to complete your Honours degree credentials. By simultaneously taking several Canadian Law courses in your final year at Trent, you’ll be well-prepared for the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) exams, enabling you to take the required steps to practice law in Canada.

Cultural Studies gives you the tools to critique and create cultural objects and practices – everything from games to graffiti, print to painting, and music to film. You’ll study culture by reading, talking, and doing, taking both lecture and workshop courses in literature, fine art, media, and theory. And you’ll ask (and seek answers to) the questions about how culture shapes our lives.

Film & Media (Specializations)
Break outside the box of mainstream and conventional media to get at the core of how film, radio, television, popular culture, and social media influence culture. Through hands-on workshops in game, radio and podcast creation, and focusing on topics covering everything from Media and War to the History of Radio and TV, this specialization will help Cultural Studies students put your media literacy to the test and prepare you for a variety of dynamic careers.

The natural world is intrinsic to human life, but people’s experience with the environment varies widely and this impacts their values and how they learn to interact with the natural world. IESS at Trent brings together the principles of both Indigenous Knowledge and Western science to explore complex topics such as climate change, community sustainability, and Indigenous health and environment through a cross-cultural, transdisciplinary approach. This degree also offers an additional layer of exploration: co-op work terms. In the Indigenous Environmental Studies/Science Co-op stream, you will participate in three paid placements that will have you engaging in real-world leading environmental workplaces to help you chart the course of your career and consciousness of the natural world. You’ll learn to generate solutions to complex local, regional, national, and international issues facing Indigenous and all peoples and communities around the world.

Human Resource Management Specialization:-
Few businesses can succeed without a skilled, happy, and healthy workforce, making human resources professionals an invaluable and in-demand asset to any team. This practical specialization will provide B.B.A. students with the skills necessary to effectively manage people, while also satisfying course requirements for the Certified Human Resources Professional Designation.™

Upon successful completion of the 5.5 credits associated with the Specialization in Human Resource Management, students will have satisfied all of the course requirements for the “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation™” and be eligible to write the National Knowledge Exam.™ By HRPA standards, students must achieve a cumulative average of 70% in all courses, with no individual course mark less than 65%. In order to take the exam, a student must be an enrolled member of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, which involves a monetary fee to the Association.

The “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation” is the only legislated certification for Human Resources Professionals in North America. Currently, the HRPA requires the completion of nine subject areas, which are all offered at Trent. CHRP, NKE, and NPPA are trademarks of HRPA and used under license. Licensing does not equate to program review, approval, or endorsement.

How do history and politics, the land and the law, culture and contemporary issues shape relationships amongst and between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities? Students in Trent’s Indigenous Studies programs develop a complex understanding and appreciation of Indigenous experiences in Canada and around the world.

Philosophy:-

In Political Studies at Trent, you will find yourself debating and exploring ideas around democracy and global politics as you examine power relations and relationships between the state, business, and citizens. Political Theory
Political Theory explores the ideas people use to understand and shape political life. Theoretical premises developed over centuries invest our assumptions, our choices and our rhetoric with meaning. Climate change is the leading global environmental issue, but its impacts extend beyond the natural world, into business operations, politics and policy development, social justice movements, law and more. If you find yourself trading the car for public transit, reviewing a company’s environmental initiatives or participating alongside millions of others in global Climate Marches, this specialization is for you.

Trent’s Climate Change Science & Policy specialization draws on faculty specialties in Trent’s School of the Environment (TSE) and from affiliated departments, providing students with a robust, well-rounded education that could lead to a variety of careers supporting climate solutions that can have profound impacts on societies for future generations.
