The most intensive of all our programs, admission to the Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) program is dependent on a successful performance audition and the completion of a music rudiments placement test.
All Bachelor of Music students take a common first year that includes applied music lessons, courses in music theory, music history, aural skills, and large ensemble performance. This introductory year also includes studies in English as well as an elective of the student's choice from outside the Department of Music.
At the end of this introductory year, and once the student has had the opportunity to assess their particular strengths and interests, a specific route of study is normally identified in consultation with the student's principal instructor and/or the undergraduate advisor.
In all program routes, the core subjects - music theory, music history, aural skills, large ensemble - continue into the second year. Greater concentration in the specific route of study occurs in years three and four. Applied music and ensemble performance study continues through all years of the Bachelor of Music programs, with the exception of the Composition and Sonic Arts Route.
All programs consist of four years of study. To be eligible to continue in any of these program routes, students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.3.
Students may choose to concentrate on one of the following routes: General, Performance, or Composition and Sonic Arts. Students who have already completed a previous degree-in music or otherwise-may also opt to complete a B.Mus After-Degree.

General Route
This curriculum allows for flexible programming to accommodate individual backgrounds and interests, allowing this route to be as general or as specialized as a student wishes.

Performance Route
This route is designed to focus on solo instrumental/vocal study and performance. Admission into this route is dependent upon the recommendation of a jury and the consent of the Department. Public recitals are required in each of the final two years. Students may major in one of the following instruments:

• Keyboard (Organ, Piano)
• Percussion
• Strings (Cello, Double Bass, Guitar, Harp, Viola, Violin)
• Voice
• Winds (Bassoon, Clarinet, Euphonium, Flute, Horn, Oboe, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba)

Composition and Sonic Arts

• This route focuses on the creation of original music and an understanding of theoretical principles and technologies involved in contemporary musical practice. Our faculty specialize in music of all kinds, including contemporary acoustic composition, electroacoustic music, sound art, free improvisation, and collaborative work with artists in other media. Students work with our world-class performance and composition faculty, student ensembles, and professional musicians from the city of Edmonton to produce their own compositions, featured in concerts open to the public every semester. Why take the Environmental Engineering Option in Civil Engineering?

Environmental engineers apply their knowledge of the natural sciences — chemistry, biology, and microbiology — with their expertise in civil engineering to design municipal services and solve environmental problems. As an environmental engineer, you might be involved in performing an environmental impact assessment, or in designing or managing systems for water distribution and collection, water treatment plants, solid waste handling and processing facilities, landfills, and air treatment plants.

This Option is taken as part of a Civil Engineering degree.

Please note: If you are applying directly from high school, you must apply to the qualifying first year of Engineering. After you complete your first year you will have the opportunity to choose a specific degree program.

Anthropology explores the origins and history of the human species through investigating biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity in human populations. You will be able to take courses related to four major subfields of Anthropology: Archaeology, Biological, Linguistic, and Cultural Anthropology. Our faculty members have expertise in a range of societies and cultures, past and present, and a range of world areas. Through your courses you may be exposed to laboratories where you can identify and interpret artifacts and fossils, or the opportunity to conduct and present original research.

Why take the Honors program?

Then the Anthropology Honors program is right for you!
• This major can also be taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Why take Computing Science? (Honors)

The Honors Computing Science program is an excellent choice for highly motivated students looking for in-depth study. The program is loosely structured so as to take advantage of the interdisciplinary nature of computing, and the department works closely with you to assist with developing your program.

Our CS department has expertise in several exciting of areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Multimedia and Computer Games, Software and Database systems, and Machine Learning and Bioinformatics. Together, we are changing how computing science is being taught.

Computing Science can also be taken as part of a BSc General or a BSc with Specialization.

Why take the BSc Specialization degree?

The Bachelor of Science Specialization degree provides a focused education in one program. You will take most of your courses in your main subject area, and are expected to maintain a higher standard of academic achievement. A Specialization degree can provide the background to help you proceed to a higher degree, but its primary function is to provide a comprehensive education at the undergraduate level.

This program can also be taken as part of a BSc Specialization degree.

Business Technology Management

Knowledge of information technology is essential to modern management, and majoring in BTM will provide the capability to manage information systems or to assist senior management in its information technology strategy.

This four-year program gives you the most comprehensive training possible to prepare you for an exciting career in nursing. You will learn in a world-class clinical setting using the latest technology, including cutting-edge patient simulation. Hands-on training begins in your first semester, and you will have the opportunity to complete several clinical placements throughout your degree.

With the Collaborative program, you can choose to complete your degree on North Campus, or at one of our partner institutions: Red Deer College, Keyano College, or Grande Prairie Regional College.

After your second year, you can apply to enter the BScN Honors Program, which is competitive and requires additional coursework.

We also offer a BScN bilingual program, a BScN After-Degree, a BScN Honors After-Degree, and an RPN-to-BScN program.

• Do you dream of becoming a language teacher? We offer instruction in several popular languages that can be taken as a major and/or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. For each language major, emphasis is placed not only on basic speaking and writing skills but also on an understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of that language.
• Available language majors are Cree, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Other.*

The Statistics Honors program allows you to choose from an extensive selection of courses on subjects ranging from the experimental, such as sampling techniques and statistical inference, to the theoretical, such as probability theory and stochastic processes. Graduates from this program can apply to become an Associate Statistician.

The Honors in Mathematical Physics program gives you the opportunity to combine studies in high-level mathematics with studies in high-level physics. The program is designed to teach you how mathematics is fundamental for theoretical and experimental physics and how physical systems can be described and analyzed mathematically. By completing this degree you will be well suited to pursue graduate studies in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering.

This program can only be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.
