The Honors in Applied Mathematics program trains students to apply mathematical ideas to solve practical problems that arise in the physical, life, and social sciences, as well as in engineering and finance. In addition to offering courses in pure mathematics, this program also offers courses that focus on using theoretical mathematics to solve problems – hence, applied mathematics.

This program can only be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.

Human geography is a branch of social science that focuses on the relationships between human societies and the built and natural environments in which they operate. You will have the opportunity to learn about topics of real world concern through supervised research projects, paid work experience, a two-week field school, and activities such as blog entries, posters, and presentations. The Honors in Mathematics program exposes you to the underlying beauty of mathematics. It will appeal to you if you are fascinated by abstraction, logic, symmetry, and studying mathematics for the sake of mathematics itself. Most pure mathematicians find employment in universities and research institutions, although an increasing number also branch out into commercial sectors such as finance and the computer industry.

• Mathematics can also be taken as part of a BSc General or BSc with Specialization degree.

Study the processes that occur within all living organisms, including the regulation of functions at the sub-cellular, cellular, tissue, organ, and whole-organism levels, as well as their interactions and integration. Specific areas of study include endocrinology, neurophysiology, developmental biology, immunology, cell signaling, toxicology, and environmental physiology in a wide variety of organisms.

Keep your options open and explore the many facets of business with a major in Business Studies. You’ll take courses from all areas within the Bachelor of Commerce degree, from accounting and finance to marketing and retail, obtaining a broad base of knowledge that you can use towards further studies or virtually any business career.

This program allows students to combine and balance their interests in mathematics with studies in computing science. This combination will be of interest to students wishing to study the mathematical foundations of computing, algorithms, and logic, or the application of modern algebraic theory to error-correcting codes and cryptography.

This program can only be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.
 

The Bachelor of Kinesiology degree provides a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human movement that includes both the art (e.g., psychology, sociology, history) and science (e.g., physiology, motor learning and control, biomechanics) of human movement as it relates to exercise science, athletic performance and promotion of long term health outcomes. In this program students select one of the following majors, enabling them to focus their learning in senior courses according to a specialized area of interest:

• Adapted Physical Activity:
  • provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to facilitate physically active lifestyles for people with impairments.
• Physical Activity and Health:
  • provides students with an understanding of and appreciation for the importance of physical activity as it relates to health, fitness, and well-being over the lifespan. Biopsychosocial factors influencing acquisition and maintenance of physical activity and health will be emphasized.
• Sport Performance:
  • provides students with an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the multifaceted aspects of sport performance.
• Sport Coaching:
  • provides students with a range of knowledge and experiences to become a competent practicing sport coach. Theories and areas of practice covered include the scientific, social scientific and pedagogical aspects of coaching. Clear links will be made to real-life coaching scenarios with a focus on understanding the integrated and complex nature of coaching and all that underlies the practice of quality sport coaching.
• Individualized Major(self-designed)
  • this major affords students the opportunity to design a combination or collection of courses that meets their individual interests and needs, provided that an opportunity to pursue their area of interest is not available through the other four majors. It may also enable students who choose to spend one term or year abroad an opportunity to design a major area of study around their international courses. This must be done in consultation with an Undergraduate Programs Advisor and requires approval of the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs).

Why take the Environmental Engineering Option in Civil Engineering?

Environmental engineers apply their knowledge of the natural sciences — chemistry, biology, and microbiology — with their expertise in civil engineering to design municipal services and solve environmental problems. As an environmental engineer, you might be involved in performing an environmental impact assessment, or in designing or managing systems for water distribution and collection, water treatment plants, solid waste handling and processing facilities, landfills, and air treatment plants.

This Option is taken as part of a Civil Engineering degree.
