Why study Immunology and Infection? (Specialization program)

This program, offered jointly by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine, focuses on infectious diseases from both the pathogen and host immune system perspectives.

Immunology and Infection can also be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.

Why take the BSc Specialization degree?

The Bachelor of Science Specialization degree provides a focused education in one program. You will take most of your courses in your main subject area, and are expected to maintain a higher standard of academic achievement. A Specialization degree can provide the background to help you proceed to a higher degree, but its primary function is to provide a comprehensive education at the undergraduate level.

This program can also be taken as part of a BSc Honors degree.

Our computing programs highlight the interdisciplinary nature of computing and offer the flexibility to combine studies in computing science with other areas of study. Through the General program, you’ll acquire the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to create innovative solutions for a wide range of challenges.

Our CS department has expertise in several exciting areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Multimedia and Computer Games, Software and Database systems, and Machine Learning and Bioinformatics. Together, we are changing how computing science is being taught.

Computing Science can also be taken as part of a BSc with Specialization or a BSc with Honors.

Why take the Biomedical Option in Mechanical Engineering? (Co-operative)

Biomedical or biomechanical engineering is the application of the principles of engineering to the solution of problems in medicine and clinical sciences. You’ll receive a human-centric education that builds on the traditional Mechanical Engineering degree, and helps prepare you for employment in the health care industry, or for graduate-level studies.

This Option can be taken as part of a Mechanical Engineering degree (Co-op only).

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

Why study Mathematical Sciences? (BSc/BEd combined degree)

This program allows you to study a diverse mix of courses in mathematics, including Computing Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, and Statistics, preparing you to teach at the junior high and high school level.

Why take the BSc / BEd combined degree?

Do you dream of becoming a Science teacher? This combined program allows you to complete two degrees from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education — a Bachelor of Science (with Specialization) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) — in just five years, preparing you to become a high school or junior high teacher in your area of expertise.

Anthropology explores the origins and history of the human species through investigating biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity in human populations. You will be able to take courses related to four major subfields of Anthropology: Archaeology, Biological, Linguistic, and Cultural Anthropology. Our faculty members have expertise in a range of societies and cultures, past and present, and a range of world areas. Through your courses, you may be exposed to laboratories where you can identify and interpret artifacts and fossils, or the opportunity to conduct and present original research.

This major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.

The BSc Specialization in Computing Science is very unique as it combines the structure of a Specialization degree with elements of customization often found in the General Science program. Nicknamed “Computing and X”, this program allows you either to study a concentrated area of computing science or to combine the study of computing science with another discipline, thus creating a very tailored degree.

This program prepares you to become a professional sport coach. You’ll gain both a theoretical understanding of, and practical experience in, the scientific, sociological, and pedagogical aspects of coaching. The program emphasizes real-life coaching scenarios, as well as the integrated and complex nature of coaching and all that underlies the practice.

This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) degree, which takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of human movement, examining both the arts-based and science-based aspects of Kinesiology and allows you to specialize in an area of study.

We also offer a BSc in Kinesiology degree, which takes a more science-focused approach.

Why study Second Languages? (Secondary Education)

• Do you dream of becoming a language teacher? We offer instruction in several popular languages that can be taken as a major and/or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. For each language major, emphasis is placed not only on basic speaking and writing skills but also on an understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of that language.
• Available language majors are Cree, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Other.*
