In this unique composite major, you’ll study courses in both media studies and expressive arts. You’ll blend theory with creative practice.

Expressive arts is unique in New Zealand and was created in response to student demand. You’ll get to study a combination of the three creative discipline areas of theatre, creative writing, or digital media production.

In the media studies part of your study, you will learn about the production, consumption and content of media and their social, cultural, political and economic implications.

You will learn how decisions are made on what is communicated, how media forms and industry structures shape those messages, and how this impacts our lives and understanding of the world.

The Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) will see you become involved in Massey’s aims to develop a sustainable path for the future. We are looking to solve real-world issues such as managing natural resources and environmental impacts.

The qualification involves lab work and field trips to water treatment plants and a range of managed and mismanaged environments across the North Island. You’ll explore processes and investigate interactions between pollutants, soils, water quality and more. From there, you can help to address issues in the food sector, by combining environmental science with a major in agriculture, horticulture, geography or soil science.

In the Bachelor of Arts (Geography) you’ll study how we interact with our cultural, social and physical environments. Geography is a diverse and dynamic subject. It covers issues such as

• Globalisation
• People’s lived experiences of their environments.

Geographers like to get out into the field to study the world as it really is. They use a variety of tools, including geospatial mapping technologies.

Stage one of the BA Geography includes both human and physical geography.

• Human geography looks at how social processes affect space, place and landscape.
•  Physical geography looks at how natural landscapes take shape and change.

You will gain a solid foundation for understanding our world as the product of a combination of social and natural processes. More advanced courses expand on the themes established at stage one. You can specialise in human geography, or include more advanced geospatial and physical geography courses as well.

Massey’s BA (Psychology) will help you explore how the brain works, and understand how we think, behave and make decisions. With a Massey BA (Psychology) you will explore the thoughts, feelings and actions of individuals and groups in a social and cultural context. Psychology will help you make sense of the human impact on the world in which we live. At Massey, you’ll learn about the natural, social and biological side as well as research methods and applications of psychology. Psychology combines:

• Natural science, focusing on perception, cognition, learning and the biological bases of behaviour;
• Social science, dealing with emotions, individual differences, behaviour and relationships and the wider social context.

Massey University’s Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology gives you the opportunity to join the pathway to in-depth research at a master’s level. 

If you complete the qualification at a satisfactory level you may be able to proceed to the Master of Science. If so, credits you have gained through this qualification may be credited to the master’s qualification.
