The role of the Quantity Surveyor is diverse: evaluating subcontractor tenders and making recommendations to clients, managing construction costs and cash flows during the construction phase, and negotiating and agreeing on final project accounts. In the Bachelor of Construction (Construction Economics) you gain the skills to contribute to this exciting industry. Develop the technical skills and applied knowledge to ensure that construction projects are delivered to agreed budgets. Learn to undertake estimating and cost planning, and prepare tender documentation. In this programme you'll delve into learning about construction practice, team management, cost planning and advanced estimating techniques, tendering and design management.

Surveyors have to be skilled in both measurement and resource management. They collect and analyse information about land, water and other natural resources, and help manage our environment by mapping the earth and the sea floor, establishing property boundaries, and providing accurate data for engineering works. The New Zealand Diploma in Surveying will develop your knowledge and skills in a wide range of topics including:

The Master of Architecture is a qualification for people who have practised in one of these areas and want to advance their skills and explore their area of interest. In this master by project you’ll advance your knowledge of current design techniques, and learn to present your work effectively to interdisciplinary audiences. You will improve your understanding of how to look at architecture sites and briefs from different angles, and use techniques to construct interesting and unique responses. The key outcome of this program is a master level project that demonstrates your specialised skill and/or knowledge in your area of chosen expertise. 

Studying a double major in the Bachelor of Applied Science means that you get a greater range of course options, in both animal management and welfare, and biodiversity management.

Animal Management and Welfare
Animal management and welfare is a rapidly growing field of study and work. This unique program will prepare you with the applied knowledge and skills you need to be successful in a wide range of emerging animal management and welfare careers.

Biodiversity Management
You’ll explore how ecosystems function and support biological diversity, and how managers of biodiversity (including government agencies, non-statutory organisations, and voluntary bodies) are responding to increasing concern over the impact of human activities on the world.

The New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing provides a platform for you to build the hands-on skills and knowledge you need to become a qualified veterinary nurse and help animals maintain the best possible health and quality of life in a clinical environment. Through demonstrations, practical sessions, group work, small group tutorials, and real-life case studies, you'll learn how to manage animal patients and clients, and contribute to the treatment and care of animals. There are plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice at Unitec’s partner sister vet clinic, Vet Care Grey Lynn, as well as your choice of external clinics across Aotearoa. You will graduate as a qualified veterinary nurse who is able to work effectively and efficiently in a clinical setting, and you’ll be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association.

The Transport Management specialisation within the Bachelor of Applied Technology is a program for students already employed, or those intending to be employed in the motor trade and spare parts sales, logistics, and management. Learn about the advances in automotive transport technology and find out how international trends affect national decisions in transport applications. Apply the principles of transport efficiency, sustainability issues, and vehicle design analysis and selection for business applications. Learn to be socially responsible, innovative and gain the skills to confidently apply your knowledge in a wide range of entrepreneurial activities in transport management. Develop an understanding of how to conduct business and manage projects. You'll also improve your communication and problem-solving skills.

This diploma is the first year of our Bachelor of Accounting (Level 7). If you do well and enjoy the courses, you’ll be able to transition easily into degree-level study or move straight into work once you’ve graduated. 

You’ll gain an understanding of the general nature of business, the functions in an organisation and the critical role accountants play in the success of a business. 

The skills you’ll develop in this programme will set you up to support an accountant or an accounting team, such as:

• Accounting skills for small businesses, including recording transactions and preparing financial statements, budgets and tax returns 
• Personal skills, including problem-solving, developing and managing business relationships, managing your performance and understanding business ethics 

This programme is ideal if you already have a degree in another field of study, or have a minimum of 2 years of work experience in the business sector and want a formal qualification, or need a certification specializing in Operations Management.

This programme creates the framework for those with business experience wanting to move into management, focusing on business process improvement, supply chain management, quality, and sustainability. Learn how to ensure a business runs as well as it possibly can by focusing on creating smooth, efficient processes that meet customer expectations. The first semester is an intense applied study with the second focused on strategy and applying these core principles to a business model.  

The Graduate Diploma in Construction Project Management is a great stepping stone if you want to move into management positions in the construction sector. Learn to apply project management knowledge to the construction industry to ensure contracts are completed on time and on budget. You'll be able to solve complex industry-related problems, in teams and alone, and provide leadership in a team environment.
