Our Animal Behaviour BSc (Hons) course is the longest-established animal behaviour course in the UK and is recognised by the Society of Biology.

But with so much still left to learn, you could even have the chance to discover a scientific breakthrough as you develop the skills to investigate animals that will allow you to contribute to important discoveries in the future.Animal Behaviour is a practical subject with plenty of opportunities to hone your skills, both in the lab and out in the field.

As part of your degree, you will visit a number of locations and organisations to observe and undertake animal handling and training and to learn about and practise advanced behavioural data collection in the field and within captive environments.Fast becoming a world centre for wildlife conservation, Cambridge is home to Fauna and Flora International, Birdlife International and the World Conservation Monitoring Centre. During your time with us, you’ll have opportunities to attend lectures and visit specialist museums and libraries in the city.

On this degree you will explore the most recent ideas, issues and debates in Criminology and Sociology such as the media, its moral panics and promotion of fear; sex, violence and the profiling of such offenders; deviant behaviour; youth offending; war and terror and genocide, giving you a specialist perspective on crime and society.

You can tailor your BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology degree to your interests and career goals through a wide choice of optional modules. You might choose to focus on issues from corporate crime to human rights, and sexual violence to burglary. Or you might want to explore the link between intoxicants and crime, or religion and crime.

We have a supportive community of staff and students at ARU. Throughout your BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology degree, you’ll benefit from one-to-one personal tutoring and dedicated Criminology social media groups.

Through real-life case studies, academic research, and interactive learning sessions, you’ll develop your research and critical thinking skills. You could learn outside of the lecture theatre too, with visits to courts and prisons, where you’ll examine the trial process and methods of rehabilitation, punishment and retribution (historical and modern), deviance, race and gender. You’ll have the chance to travel abroad on one of our international field trips and examine crime and crime control in different geographical and cultural contexts. Or you might choose to study abroad for a semester to gain a more in-depth perspective on alternative criminal justice systems and societies - with funding on offer to cover the cost.

Our BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning with Rehabilitation degree allows you to focus on the areas that really interest you, gain fitness industry qualifications, and obtain valuable work experience on an optional placement year.

Based in our specialist, accredited labs in the Cambridge Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, you’ll learn how to help people develop their speed, agility, endurance and strength – whether they’re professional athletes training for elite competitions or local clients seeking to improve their physical activity levels. With different equipment at your disposal, you can track, monitor, correct and capture different data on performers to support your learning and development towards your career goal.

You’ll have opportunities to specialise in biomechanics or exercise physiology from Year 2, and to conduct your own research or take a work placement in Year 3.

Supported by our highly-experienced strength and conditioning specialists, sports therapists, coaches, health and exercise professionals and world-leading researchers, you’ll learn how to rehabilitate, recondition, and maximise the potential of sportspeople safely and ethically. There’s the chance to hear from world-leading guest speakers too, through our Excellence in Sports seminars.

As a Computer Science student at ARU, you'll spend lots of time in our computing labs. These include a Cisco lab with routing and switching equipment, and our virtual Netlab which offers 24/7 remote access to Cisco equipment.

Our BSc (Hons) course focuses on equipping you with software engineering skills with a slight edge given to programming languages, so if it’s the ability to bend software to your will that excites you, this is course for you. If you're interested, however, in software engineering skills with a slight edge given to networking principles, the BEng (Hons) will give you the tools to enable you to configure complex network systems.

On this course you’ll study the practical and theoretical aspects of modern politics and international relations, and thereby gain insights into our past, present and future on both a local and global scale. You’ll examine relevant political debates from a historical, philosophical and sociological perspective. In doing so, we‘ll go beyond the ‘high politics’ of traditional theories and the workings of parliaments. Instead, you’ll be able to develop your own specialisms in areas such as global diplomacy, international relations, and international issues like climate change; protest movements like Black Lives Matter; the devolution of power away from central government; the politics of the new media; the politics of gender, and the place of race in modern society.

Our specialist modules such as Race, Racism and Cultural Identity, Wrestling with Trump: the WWE and Modern Political Culture, and Politics and Social Media will allow you to engage with contemporary issues, developing a deeper understanding of modern politics.

As a BA (Hons) Politics student at ARU, you’ll learn from expert tutors including historians, sociologists, criminologists and political scientists.

Together, we’ll explore the latest theories, debates and research; examine domestic, European and international themes in politics, and consider the practical implications of political decision-making and policies.

All our Politics students have the opportunity to study in the USA or Canada for a semester, and can apply for funding to help cover the cost. You could also take an optional placement year.

Once you’ve graduated, you might start a career in analysis, journalism or local or international politics, or you could continue to develop your skills with one of our full-time and part-time Masters degrees including our MA International Relations.

Throughout your BA (Hons) Sociology degree, you’ll learn from sociologists who specialise in social policy and theory and undertake research into a wide range of sociological issues including 'race' and ethnicity, urban sociology, delinquency and disorder, the sociology of sport, notions of belonging, governance, moral regulation, social constructions of alcohol, gender-based violence, social justice, and social relations in marginalised communities.

No matter what your experience of filmmaking, our MA Film and Television Production at ARU will expand your knowledge and understanding of the UK factual film and TV profession and industry.

On this Masters course you’ll create a portfolio of seven films of different lengths.Focusing on the two key roles of director and producer – which in current factual programming are merged into one – you’ll explore the dynamics of this ever-changing industry, and what it takes to succeed.

Here at ARU you’ll learn to become a visual storyteller, a collaborator, motivator and problem solver. While our emphasis is on factual programming, there is scope and flexibility for you to develop with experimental work, drama and music videos.

Using our industry-standard facilities in camera operation, sound, lighting and editing, you’ll develop professional skills in screen-based production. You’ll also gain skills in scheduling, production managing, budgeting and marketing programmes.

We’ll encourage you to collaborate with other postgraduate students, helping you to become a flexible media professional who can produce and deliver high-quality video content for many different clients.

Learn to create images that tell compelling stories, whether your dream is to be a fashion or fine art photographer or a photojournalist.

As a photography student at ARU you’ll explore many areas of photographic practice including digital and analogue image-making, experimental crossovers, multimedia, self-publishing and exhibition.

Take full advantage of our specialist darkrooms, photographic studios, and digital post-production and printing suite. You can also borrow specialist camera equipment through our dedicated loan service.

All your work will be supported by academic staff working at the forefront of photographic research and innovation and have years of professional experience. You will be taught through individual tutorial and studio sessions, as well as in group lectures and workshops, with regular career development events throughout your study. Through continuous experimentation, you’ll be encouraged to refine your photographic style and voice.

Critical and contextual studies will connect your own research and writing to your practice and will guide you to specialist resources in our campus library. Explore hundreds of photographers’ monographs and access technical and contextual texts, as well as other online resources, to underpin and expand your practice.

You can expand your skillset, with additional technical workshops including printmaking, 3D work and writing workshops. You can choose to take part in photography field trips too, and experience photographing different locations such as Venice and Prague.

While studying BA (Hons) Photography with us, you’ll learn to adopt a professional approach to your work, covering aspects of career management such as rights issues, project management and self-promotion through social media. Our course is suitable for those who wish to specialise in the current medical applications of bioscience such as molecular and cell biology as a progression from a relevant first degree, as well as students with a strong background in ‘traditional’ analytical science (chemistry or biology).
