Our BA (Hons) Visual Effects Technical Art will help you become an artist skilled in the latest procedural 3D techniques, who can work alongside programmers, developers and other artists.Using the latest procedural content creation software, you’ll learn to design and deploy solutions to problems encountered in the video games and visual effects industries.

As well as exploring the key areas of working with VFX and computer graphics, our course will keep you up to date with the latest techniques and trends. We'll also help you identify the supporting skills and knowledge that you’ll need to succeed in the creative industries.

Throughout your Visual Effects Technical Art degree, our expert staff are on hand to offer support and feedback. They’ll help you create an online presence to showcase your work. All our lecturers and staff are researchers and practitioners, and their work reflects current VFX practice.

As a BA (Hons) Criminology and Policing student at ARU, we’ll help you work towards your career goals from day one.

Through our relationship with regional police forces and practitioners, you’ll have opportunities to engage with professionals from the criminal justice sector through guest lectures (including those organised by our Policing Institute for the Eastern Region, workshop events, study trips and research projects.

You may also have opportunities to work closely with local police forces. A recent student project, sponsored by Cambridge Constabulary, carried out research on police officer demographics and recruitment.

You’ll learn from staff with real-world experience: a significant part of your teaching in some modules will be delivered by policing and criminal justice practitioners such as former and active Crime Scene Investigators. Our criminology lecturers are active researchers with experience of working on real-life crimes with the police. You can also choose to an optional placement year.

We’ll support you to get involved in justice causes and campaigns, charities and voluntary work that contributes to civic duty so you can gain relevant experience in the criminal justice system. You’ll also boost your CV as you become proficient in critical analysis, research and communication.

Immerse yourself in our specialist printmaking workshop at Cambridge School of Art, where our facilities enable you to engage with the histories of information and technological media, fine-art, craft and mechanical reproduction, as well as new digital and mixed-media approaches to ideas of reproducibility and the mediated image, within the expanded field of print.

On our MA Printmaking course, you will explore and embrace new ways of thinking and making within a fine-art, multi-disciplinary, experimental andcritically informed environment, supported by experienced print and fine art practitioners.By recognising its traditions and also adopting a forward-thinking approach to what printmaking can be in the 21st century and beyond, you will be encouraged to take risks, to challenge and question existing conventions of print, and to consider its critical and contemporary contexts.

This Masters degree is an ideal course for print-based artists looking to extend their practice and for those less experienced to creatively explore a more print-specific language and approach to art practice.

Teaching is primarily through one-to-one and group tutorials, seminars, workshops and studio critiques, in which you will learn about recent theories, contexts and practices. With access to the print and fine art studios, you are also encouraged and expected to develop your work and research independently.

Technical demonstrations and refresher sessions are offered in both traditional and emerging processes, including relief and intaglio printing, screenprint, plate lithography, photo-based and digital media. You are encouraged to experiment with these in your creative work, supported by staff who are experienced artists working across disciplines.

As an MA Printmaking student, you will benefit from links we have with external arts organisations, such as Curwen Print Study, galleries and exhibition spaces, both in Cambridge and further afield. London is only a short train journey away, and our connections with the MA Printmaking course at Camberwell College of Art will give you opportunities for critical exchange and to network with fellow MA students. We also encourage you to visit relevant exhibitions and events and to submit work to open exhibitions and prestigious competitions and prizes. In 2021/2022, we will be offering a new Printmaking Bursary across CSA for students working in print, supported by Curwen Print Study.

As a photography student at ARU you’ll explore many areas of photographic practice including digital and analogue image-making, experimental crossovers, multimedia, self-publishing and exhibition.

Take full advantage of our specialist darkrooms, photographic studios, and digital post-production and printing suite. You can also borrow specialist camera equipment through our dedicated loan service.

All your work will be supported by academic staff working at the forefront of photographic research and innovation and have years of professional experience. You will be taught through individual tutorial and studio sessions, as well as in group lectures and workshops, with regular career development events throughout your study. Through continuous experimentation, you’ll be encouraged to refine your photographic style and voice.

Critical and contextual studies will connect your own research and writing to your practice and will guide you to specialist resources in our campus library. Explore hundreds of photographers’ monographs and access technical and contextual texts, as well as other online resources, to underpin and expand your practice.

You can expand your skillset, with additional technical workshops including printmaking, 3D work and writing workshops. You can choose to take part in photography field trips too, and experience photographing different locations such as Venice and Prague.

While studying BA (Hons) Photography with us, you’ll learn to adopt a professional approach to your work, covering aspects of career management such as rights issues, project management and self-promotion through social media. You can choose to take up work placements that will help you establish your own professional network, including opportunities such as working for magazines, galleries and photographers.
