Understand human behaviour in the work place on our Business Psychology MSc.

Whether you’re interested in a leadership role, career paths in human resources, marketing, employee relations, or any role that would benefit from understanding other people in the work place, this course is for you. You will develop your critical understanding of the main theories of effective leadership and organisational behaviour and how they can be applied in real-life business scenarios.

You’ll also develop your own skills in relation to human behaviour and leadership in the workplace, preparing you for a wide range of business and management roles across a variety of sectors.

Digital electronics and computer systems are significant in commerce, industry and the home, and have an ever increasing impact on the way we work and live. To gain the competitive edge over its global rivals, British industry and commerce needs trained computer systems engineers with skills in both hardware and software who can assess, harness and influence the growth of information technology.

Our Electrical and Electronic Engineering MEng course is designed to stretch our top students and includes a 12 month industrial placement. It gives you the opportunity to study electronics and computer science more deeply than at BEng level while also gaining valuable industry experience.

Our courses are developed in collaboration with a wide range of industry sectors to give a broad but relevant degree so teaching won’t just be standard lectures and you’ll be encouraged to discover how science fiction becomes fact. Designing your own products and working with cutting-edge equipment will be a core part of the course. The design of this innovative course emphasises ‘doing’ as well as ‘knowing’, helping you to develop essential practical, intellectual, business and communication skills. This ‘real world’ approach, combined with the beneficial experience you will gain during your placement, will give you a clear competitive edge in the search for graduate employment.

What you’ll learn
The first two years of the MEng are taught alongside the BEng degree and you’ll gain a solid grounding in software engineering and computing systems, complemented by engineering expertise in digital electronics and telecommunications. To build a bridge between hardware and software specialists you’ll study computing and electronics with single honours students from the electronic engineering and computer science subject groups.

In the second and final year, you’ll be able to choose options that enable you to specialise in preparation for your future career. These options include digital system design, telecommunications systems, optoelectronics and signal processing.

This course has been designed specifically for those who haven't studied computer science at undergraduate level.

What you’ll learn

You’ll learn to master the tools you need to meet the computational challenges that business and society face, while building a solid base of theoretical knowledge to underpin your delivery of smart solutions and in-depth analysis.

As well as developing a systematic understanding of the software development process you’ll also learn how to make best use of huge amounts of data, enabling you and your future employer to make better business decisions.

We teach specialist subjects ranging from user experience (UX) design to artificial intelligence (AI) and data mining, and give you unique opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve real-world problems.

You’ll be able to get involved with our student-run software development company, Beautiful Canoe, as well as opportunities to work with businesses on real-world issues.

What you’ll learn
Combining both core and specialized subjects, our programme prepares students for high-level careers in the private and public sectors.

In your first year, you’ll cover fundamental and advanced maths such as algebra, calculus, and geometry alongside applied maths topics like statistics, machine learning and quantum computing. Our joint honors course enables you to choose a combination of maths and economics modules in your second and final years.

On this course, you’ll spend your third year in a paid professional placement of direct relevance to your studies. This placement will give you invaluable practical experience in a real work environment and will further enhance your career prospects.

Recent placements for mathematics students have included Warner Bros, where the student worked on data analysis about movie releases, and a hospital trust where the student was working with an e-prescribing team, helping to improve efficiency for patients.

Explore the social structures and issues that have shaped your own life and learn not just how to understand the world, but how to change it. Understand some of the biggest debates in society and develop the skills you need to research what matters to you.

What you’ll learn
Sociology and Social Policy at Aston are about real-life experiences and how they relate to bigger social problems. We explore the social constraints we encounter in our everyday lives and how they are reinforced by class, race, religion, and gender. To understand how these issues perpetuate existing inequalities and unequal life chances, we analyze what impact official politics has on such processes, how politics is intertwined with the profit-making aims pursued by big corporations and how their combined interests dominate our social imaginations.

You will investigate the economic, social, and political forces which influence government decision-making and develop a detailed understanding of policy-making processes at global, national and local levels of government. You will also explore in-depth, the outcomes and consequences of various government policies on the economy and society. Studying the nature of policy delivery and management by various organizations, such as local governments, schools, and businesses, will prepare you for a range of career paths.

Build on your psychology qualifications and learn advanced psychology concepts and how they apply to various business issues, such as the assessment of individuals in the workplace, organizational behavior as well as strategy and leadership.

Unlike some other universities, the placement year at Aston is not a ‘bolt-on’ year, it is an integral part of your degree and in your second year we’ll make sure you’re ready to get the most from this opportunity. You'll receive plenty of help and advice in finding your placement and specialist support and supervision from the University during your placement.

You will also have the opportunity to produce a substantial piece of individual work in the form of a dissertation on an agreed topic of your choice.

This brand new course gives you the skills to devise and develop artificial intelligence solutions alongside broader business strategy - a strong combination.

What you’ll learn

We'll teach you, specialist, technical information together with a deep understanding of how businesses work, to enable you to create ethical, well-justified, and appropriate AI solutions.

Our focus on this course is the application of your AI technical information and knowledge in a business setting, with a focus on machine learning and data mining to improve business processes. You’ll have the opportunity to design and plan, implement, test, evaluate and document your solutions with this focus in mind.

As well as the development of your technical and business knowledge, you’ll also grow your communication and team working skills as you work on your own and with others on projects and presentations. One of these projects gives you the opportunity to develop a computer game, work as part of a team, and present your solution to the rest of your class.
