The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies is a three-year undergraduate programme which introduces students to aspects of education, health and social care, with a specific focus on children from 0 – 8 years of age.

The course offers graduates a range of employability opportunities with module content supporting students in developing a wide range of transferable skills, as well as providing a curriculum which enables students to develop their academic skills.

Students who graduate from the programme will be awarded a full and relevant degree enhancing employability by enabling them to seek roles in early childhood settings as part of the adult: child ratio. Furthermore, students may also choose to work towards an award which embeds graduate practitioner competencies into their study.

Special Educational provision, tackling discrimination and adding to the understanding of how to meet the needs of different groups across society, is not only hugely relevant in today’s world but arguably also incredibly important. The areas you study will be dynamic, with current, contemporary themes which change and develop from year to year. Throughout the course, you will complete a number of modules which take a more thematic approach where you’ll explore critical issues such as Inclusion, Equality and Entitlement. During your final year, you will explore wider issues of inclusion including policy and leadership.

The SENDI programme is carefully structured to guide you as you develop as an individual student, from broad themes in your first year to more specialised topics in later years. You will have the opportunity to examine legislation and contrast it with the reality of what is provided in educational settings, developing skills in critical analysis of current issues, and looking at how those issues impact on the individual and their learning environment. In addition, you’ll become equipped with the confidence and competence to make a difference to your own life and the lives of others.

This course will provide you with academic knowledge, practical skills and professional experience in preparation for a future in English language teaching, media or publishing sector. It will provide the tools and resources for you to reflect upon your professional practice, conduct your own research or continue with further studies in the field of linguistics.

This course has modules relating to the use of English language and teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) , which will help you to become qualified with a specialist subject expertise in English language and an internationally recognised teaching qualification.
Completion of the course gives you a qualification that will allow you to apply for positions as an English Language teacher both in the UK and abroad. However, you will also benefit from a thorough exploration of English language, developing skills in critical thinking, written and spoken communication skills, and teaching practice.

You will be taught by staff with many years of experience in the field of English language, English language teaching and teacher training. In addition, there are opportunities to teach English throughout your study to gain authentic experience of teaching learners of English.

Psychology has a science base, yet includes a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, statistics and computer-based skills. As well as classic psychological theories and research, you’ll be debating social issues, studying specific mental processes, such as memory, language and attention, as well as broader issues and theories – both historical and contemporary. As well as applying psychological knowledge to a range of subjects, you will develop your skills in problem-solving, data analysis, predict and reasoning, with a focus on real-world application.

Our course has been developed in consultation with Health and Social Care services, thus ensuring relevance to provision within the community and meeting employers’ expectations.

In recent years, the context of health and social care delivery has been a constant talking point across public and political agenda, and was a key feature in the manifestos of all political parties in the recent UK election due to the concerns that systems are overwhelmed by unprecedented demand (Oliver, et al, 2014). The UK population of over 75’s is projected to more than double in size in the next 20 years, with over 22% of our population already over 65.

All sectors within health and social care provision require both high quality initial education and training alongside sustained and consistent updates (i.e. Continuous Professional Development (CPD)) both informally and formally, through creditable programmes of learning and education.This BSc provides an entry point into a number of career paths in the Health and Social Care sectors. It is designed to allow students to pursue and apply knowledge and understanding of health and social care following a systematic approach to evidence based practice. This course offers a different type of Theology and Ethics – we like to think of it as Theology ‘with its sleeves rolled up’. Our hands-on programme will take you beyond the classroom and will open doors that have the potential to change your life and empower you to make a difference to the world you inhabit.

Get ready to look at recent trends in theology alongside the implications of scientific discovery, exploring religious debate together with arguments for atheism and for the existence of God. You won’t stop studying world religions, however. You’ll also explore other key events and issues related to terrorism, race, gender and sexuality. Here at BGU, we have many years’ experience in teaching Religious Studies, Philosophy and Theology. We designed this degree to bring the oldest of academic subjects firmly into the present day – combining the richness of ancient tradition with the relevance and freshness of a 21st-century subject.

You will be encouraged to develop a strong personal ideology of education and will be supported in the development of secure employability skills through our work-based placements. A number of core modules each year incorporate placements in schools or other education-related settings and carefully structured placement tasks will ensure that you gain valuable first-hand practical experience.
