BGU’s Sociology programme provides a comprehensive and exciting introduction to the study of all aspects of the social world. Along the way, you’ll see how sociological thinking is crucial for people who want to understand the world around them, whether as students, tuition-fee payers, citizens, employees (or via any of their other social roles).

If you are a graduate working in education and looking for academic and professional development and experience, this could be the course for you. It is flexible, part-time, wholly online masters degree and is designed for busy professionals. You may already have some credits (e.g. from a PGCE or a CPD course) which you may be able to use towards the MA, subject to certain conditions.

There are five modules, designed to be flexible and allow you to interpret the assignments in ways that will adapt to your current professional role and enable you to articulate your personal learning agenda. Module leaders will help you to use the academic literature to formulate key research questions to guide your work, extend your thinking and encourage reflection on your professional context.

All of our MA students are professional educators working in a variety of UK and international settings, including teachers, senior leaders and others from schools, as well as drama practitioners, arts educators, social workers, FE Lecturers and work-based trainers. Throughout the study of Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion (SENDI) you will find out about different categories of need including; cognition & learning, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and communication needs. Modules cover the broad spectrum to focus upon specific and more complex needs. You will challenge your own beliefs and values, as well as those of others, and become an advocate for change.You’ll be encouraged to increase your understanding of competing for political agendas in relation to inclusion, and you’ll study hidden inequalities in depth. The areas you study will be dynamic, with current, contemporary themes which change and develop from year to year. Throughout the course, you will complete a number of modules which take a more thematic approach where you’ll explore critical issues such as Inclusion, Equality and Entitlement. During your final year, you will explore wider issues of inclusion including policy and leadership.

Throughout the course, you will have the chance to study material from prehistory through to Roman and Medieval times as well as exploring contemporary archaeology. In addition to studying archaeological evidence from these different periods, you will also explore key ideas and current issues, such as archaeological method and theory, landscape archaeology and community archaeology.

History is essential in understanding what the past means for us in the twenty-first century. Here at BGU, you won’t just study history through documents, you’ll learn through placements, site visits and the archives and museums that the ancient city of Lincoln has to offer. Throughout the course, you will discover a number of the modules which take a more thematic approach where you may explore critical issues such as community and public history, local history or war and commemoration. Psychology has a science base, yet includes a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, statistics and computer-based skills. As well as classic psychological theories and research, you’ll be debating social issues, studying specific mental processes, such as memory, language and attention, as well as broader issues and theories – both historical and contemporary. As well as applying psychological knowledge to a range of subjects, you will develop your skills in problem-solving, data analysis, predict and reasoning, with a focus on real-world application.

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies is a three-year undergraduate programme which introduces students to aspects of education, health and social care, with a specific focus on children from 0 – 8 years of age.
The course offers graduates a range of employability opportunities with module content supporting students in developing a wide range of transferable skills, as well as providing a curriculum which enables students to develop their academic skills. Students who graduate from the programme will be awarded a full and relevant degree enhancing employability by enabling them to seek roles in early childhood settings as part of the adult: child ratio.

Sport, Coaching & Physical Education an BGU in Lincoln is an exciting, multi-disciplinary degree which equips you with the vocational, professional and academic knowledge and experience required for those with aspirations for a successful career in coaching, teaching, sports development or the health and fitness industry. The abilities to compare, contrast, reflect and relate concepts are evaluated. Our counselling course will offer you the opportunity to learn about a wealth of topics, such as self awareness, diversity, mental wellbeing and supporting clients facing a range of difficulties and issues. You are likely to explore different Counselling approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness.
Students will study and learn practical counselling skills in integrated counselling, including elements of humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive behavioural approaches. Course themes explore a range of counselling modalities, from more traditional talking therapies through to contemporary wellbeing and creative approaches. Students will engage in a diverse range of assessments, including written coursework, projects and practical counselling skills to demonstrate their learning.
