Through studying Psychology at BGU you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the scientific nature of the subject and of its wider cultural and social impact. Throughout the study of Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion (SENDI) you will find out about different categories of need including; cognition & learning, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and communication needs. Modules cover the broad spectrum to focus upon specific and more complex needs. You will challenge your own beliefs and values, as well as those of others, and become an advocate for change.
You’ll be encouraged to increase your understanding of competing for political agendas in relation to inclusion, and you’ll study hidden inequalities in depth. The areas you study will be dynamic, with current, contemporary themes which change and develop from year to year. Throughout the course, you will complete a number of modules which take a more thematic approach where you’ll explore critical issues such as Inclusion, Equality and Entitlement. During your final year, you will explore wider issues of inclusion including policy and leadership.

Health & Social Care is all about compassion, support and understanding both individual needs and broader sociocultural context. Here at BGU we practice what we teach. In recent years, the context of health and social care delivery has been a constant talking point across public and political agenda, and was a key feature in the manifestos of all political parties in the recent UK election due to the concerns that systems are overwhelmed by unprecedented demand (Oliver, et al, 2014). The UK population of over 75’s is projected to more than double in size in the next 20 years, with over 22% of our population already over 65.

All sectors within health and social care provision require both high quality initial education and training alongside sustained and consistent updates (i.e. Continuous Professional Development (CPD)) both informally and formally, through creditable programmes of learning and education.This BSc provides an entry point into a number of career paths in the Health and Social Care sectors. It is designed to allow students to pursue and apply knowledge and understanding of health and social care following a systematic approach to evidence based practice. Applied research is embedded throughout, supported by objective observation and critical analysis.

History is essential in understanding what the past means for us in the twenty-first century. Here at BGU, you won’t just study history through documents, you’ll learn through placements, site visits and the archives and museums that the ancient city of Lincoln has to offer. Throughout the course, you will discover a number of the modules which take a more thematic approach where you may explore critical issues such as community and public history, local history or war and commemoration. During your final year, with advice and guidance from academic staff, you will also choose to focus on a topic, period or theme that is of particular interest to you. This allows you to tailor the course to your own interests and particular career aspirations.

On this course, you will explore a range of fascinating topics spanning a number of historical eras, in a wide variety of local, national and global contexts. You’ll analyse data, construct arguments and engage in real historical research, along with looking at how history is encountered within the community. You'll also take a work-based placement at an archive, museum or other historic sites.

During the study of Sport at BGU you will gain understanding in the complexities of this subject, including; the development of sport; how performance can be enhanced and how it can be managed and led. This course is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the sport, physical education, learning and teaching and education.
Alongside these three areas, you can expect to cover contemporary themes that develop from year to year. You’ll explore the effects of exercise on the body, looking at a range of physical activities in different social groups – from high-level sports performers to young children. As you’d expect, this course also contains a great deal of hands-on experience, where you’ll learn how to use your skills to inspire others to be more active and to excel at sport and exercise.

Mathematics graduates are in short supply and we aim to provide you with the tools you need to make a real difference in the world and to those around you.Mathematics at BGU will not only develop your mathematical and practical skills and your understanding of teaching, learning and education; it will also allow you to share your enthusiasm to inspire others. With the support of dedicated and professional staff, you will study numerous aspects of both pure and applied mathematics and, in doing so, gain a good overall appreciation for the subject. We’ll help you to develop a detailed knowledge and deep conceptual understanding of a range of mathematical topics including complex numbers, matrices, algebraic techniques, algorithmic methods, probability and calculus. You’ll also learn how to apply your work to practical situations, using appropriate mathematical tools and technology to aid with real-life problem-solving.

Our dynamic Sports courses are designed around three specific areas - Physical Education, Sports Coaching and Sports Development. As your course progresses you can choose to specialise in a particular area, giving you as much freedom as possible to explore your personal interests.

We want students who ask questions and discuss ideas so that you develop confidence in solving problems and thinking mathematically. We encourage you to understand and enjoy mathematics rather than memorise rules and procedures. We teach mathematics mainly through group workshops and offer a learning experience that is very different from larger universities.

This course offers a different type of Theology and Ethics – we like to think of it as Theology ‘with its sleeves rolled up’. Our hands-on programme will take you beyond the classroom and will open doors that have the potential to change your life and empower you to make a difference to the world you inhabit.

Get ready to look at recent trends in theology alongside the implications of scientific discovery, exploring religious debate together with arguments for atheism and for the existence of God. You won’t stop studying world religions, however. You’ll also explore other key events and issues related to terrorism, race, gender and sexuality.
