DMU’s Music Technology BA is a distinctive, dynamic and market-leading course that challenges conventions in music composition and performance and explores the extraordinary musical possibilities offered by new technologies. You will explore an extensive range of approaches to creating and performing, such as multi-track recording, production and composition, new technologies for musical performance, music and sound for moving image, sound synthesis theory and practice, site-specific and installation work, computer coding for the creative artist, and advanced surround sound.

You will study digital and post-digital history and aesthetics to inspire your creative vision and link your music meaningfully to the world. Based on your goals, you will choose specific compositional, technical and theoretical topics to research more deeply, particularly as you enter our flexible third year of study.

Interior Design challenges us to reimagine existing interiors as well as challenge the idea of ‘space’ to create innovative and experiential spaces. It focuses on the way people interact within these environments, considering comfort, usability, effectiveness, aesthetics and emotional connection.

On this course you’ll explore the regeneration and adaptation of real buildings and sites and learn how to turn old commercial premises into exciting new spaces for exhibition, retail, leisure, eating and socialising purposes. You’ll develop visual communication skills in drawing, 3D modelling, computing, video-modelscope, computer-aided design (CAD) and virtual reality. The Air Transport Management MSc has been developed by two leading aviation academics in conjunction with industry partners, to offer a critical, comprehensive and practical understanding of the structure and operation of the international air transport industry. It has been designed to equip future leaders with a range of transferrable and analytical skills that can be directly applied in the workplace.

You will study airline operations, including licensing, scheduling, fleet planning, and aircraft acquisition. You will explore the management and operations of airports and the key challenges facing the sector, and gain insight into the business models and strategies that determine the future of the airline industry. You can also tailor the programme to reflect your particular interests or career aspirations through focusing on a particular area of air transport management in your dissertation.

The programme is suited to both recent graduates and those with existing professional experience who wish to expand their knowledge of the commercial air transport industry. You will develop your programming and systems analysis know-how by studying modules such as Object-Oriented Programming and Systems Analysis and Design, while also growing a robust skillset in practical areas including E-Commerce Software and Database Systems and Design.  

In your final semester, you will work on your individual project, with the support of an academic supervisor, giving you the opportunity to produce a substantial piece of work on a topic of your choice.

You will be taught by experts from the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility, which is internationally recognised for applied research expertise, ensuring exposure to the most recent developments in both the theory and practice of modern computing.

You can apply even if you have no previous experience in computing, but you will need to demonstrate some aptitude for logical analysis.

Visual Effects BSc has been developed in consultation with the industry to deliver skills relative to the production of visual effects (VFX) across a range of contemporary media. The use of VFX is commonplace within broadcast productions, film and animation, video games, and in advertising. This is reflected in the scope of this course as it pulls from a number of disciplines including film, special effects, animation and 3D, to complement the interdisciplinarity of the subject.

This course also encourages you to develop your creative flair and understanding of industry-standard software to create your own 3D content for use in film and television projects.

As an integral part of the multibillion-pound film and television industry, studying the creative and technical skills used in VFX can open up extensive career prospects.

Our graduates have gone on to work in roles such as compositors and matte painters, as well as wider media-based roles such as colourists and finishers.

In an increasingly media-focused world, this course will develop your existing passion for film and TV into a prospective career, helping you acquire a skillset required for many technical and creative roles.
