Overview

If you dream of a career in music production, audio engineering, programming, mastering or mixing, DMU’s course in Music Production is designed specifically for you.

This course covers the science and technology of audio and recording systems and how these can be used effectively in recording, mixing and mastering and sound design. You will develop skills in audio mixing and mastering, learn the principles of electronics and acoustics, study the measurement and design of recording and audio product environments, and produce sound for digital media, including radio, television, film, video games and online content.

Through core modules, you will learn about the fundamentals of audio engineering, discover the acoustical foundations of musical sounds and be introduced to studio techniques. In your second and third year, you will build your portfolio and have the chance to organise and perform your own events in the heart of Leicester.

You will build a skillset that will equip you for roles in areas such as studio recording, audio and post-production, sound system installation, management and sound for film and TV. Our graduates have gone on to work in successful roles for major companies including Bauer Media and Spotify.

The Criminology with Psychology degree examines the causes, legal framework and responses to crime, combined with the study of psychology.

Students will cover a range of material to develop a holistic appreciation of criminal justice matters. For example, whilst students will explore a range of theoretical perspectives on causes of crime and philosophical justifications of punishment, they will also develop a solid understanding of how the criminal justice system works in practice. We encourage our students to develop as critical thinkers engaging with the world around them and preparing them for life after university.

Media Production is an industry-focused course, which provides you with the technical foundations and practical skills required for a career in a rapidly changing media landscape, enabling you to pursue roles in industries such as advertising, TV and radio production, journalism and PR.

The production and utilisation of energy is a key global issue. Governments and industry are becoming increasingly aware of balancing energy production and utilisation with the need to be environmentally conscious and energy efficient.

This course addresses energy production, storage and utilisation. Develop your understanding of the production and efficient use of conventional and renewable energy sources for power generation, and modern energy storage solutions, complemented with elements of energy economics. You will gain a strong understanding of key principles in engineering, mechanics, electricals and electronics, and will explore specialist topics in modules including Sustainable Buildings, Energy for Transport Applications and Low Carbon Energy Technology.

You will have the opportunity to gain industry experience by undertaking an optional work placement. Recent placements have taken place at companies such as Cummins, Network Rail and Caterpillar. We also place a strong focus on employability through industry relevant modules, including Energy Economics and Policy and Project Management.

On this course, you will develop an advanced understanding of your design practice, and discover how emerging digital technologies can enhance your skill set, in order to take an individual and innovative approach to tackling complex industry challenges.

The MSc programme is tailored for students with BSc degrees or engineering design degrees, so that they can build on their prior technical knowledge. There are no engineering modules on the MSc, instead the broad curriculum has been designed for you to respond to the assessments by applying industrial product design and engineering design principles within concepts, final specification and design. As an MSc graduate, you will have the technical engineering design expertise that will make you ideally placed for industry roles in manufacturing, product and industrial design - or to continue onto further research and development within the industry or by studying a PhD. Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), this programme explores human behaviour using sound scientific methodology – observation, measurement, and testing – to understand how and why people function in the way they do. Focuses on both psychology and education studies, you will also be introduced to the history of formal education in the UK and explore key contemporary issues and debates concerning social class, race and ethnicity, and social justice in education.

Gaining a professionally accredited psychology degree is an essential first step to a career as a psychologist or to progress to postgraduate study.
