This BSc (Hons) Data Sciences programme, will help you to get a head start in this innovative career. You will learn the technical and analytical skills to navigate through this data field and how to extract valuable insight from the vast amounts of data available to you.

This masters in Quantitative Finance and Mathematics course introduces innovative modern mathematical techniques and financial modelling. It focuses on probability and stochastics, which are often not included in standard mathematics degrees. It’s been designed to include the practical and pragmatic aspects of mathematical finance – offering you relevant and modern skills relating to structured finance in demand in the UK and internationally. The aim is to understand, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the risks and uncertainty involved. The course uses experience from our internationally recognised Construction Project Management course and combines it with our high-profile Civil Engineering postgraduate course to provide a broad and valuable education. As a result, our recent graduates have been employed by a range of both national and international employers.

This is a 2-year MSc progamme, offering practical application as well as advanced teaching, design and research in mechanical engineering. It is specifically for graduates with an engineering degree looking to enhance their career opportunities. Students will gain the technical, scientific and managerial abilities essential for a career as a professional mechanical engineer. The programme enables students to obtain an MSc as well as gaining practial experience in an industrial setting.

The programmes delivered by Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

This physics degree covers subjects including dynamics, electromagnetism, photonics and optics and astrophysics. These areas lead onto the quantum world of subatomic particles, the fascinating nature of light and the challenging but wonderful fields of quantum physics and relativity. Mathematics and practical work play an important part throughout the course, and specialist courses provided a background in physical maths and lab skills for physics applications. This professional-standard facility provides access to live financial data from global markets and organisations. Integrating use of Bloomberg Terminals into our teaching develops professionally relevant skills in data analysis, financial reporting, financial risk management and financial modelling.

The majority of our MA (Hons) Accountancy and Finance graduates go on to become chartered accountants in either professional practice, industry, or the public sector, but many go on to successful careers in banking and finance. A survey by Unistats 2019 found that 91% of recent graduates were in work or further study six months after graduating.

The MSc in International Marketing provides detailed knowledge of contemporary marketing concepts coupled with the scope for specialisation.

There are eight taught courses, divided equally over two semesters, followed by an international marketing dissertation in semester 3.  Part-time students register for two courses per semester and progress to the dissertation at the end of their second year. Assessment is specifically designed to develop professional career readiness and includes several collaborative projects with industry partners.

Mandatory courses deliver core international marketing concepts (International Strategic Marketing, Contemporary Consumer Behaviour, Branding and Communications, Research Philosophy and Practice) as well as specialist marketing knowledge (Marketing Metrics, Sustainable Marketing).

 Students can select two course options as business related specialisms - one for each semester.  These include digital technology (Strategic Innovation Management, Contemporary Business Technology, Social Media Marketing), business performance (Project Management, Measuring and Managing Performance) and the contextualisation of marketing (Issues and Trends in Tourism, Entrepreneurship Creativity, Legal Context of Marketing). For those who wish an more detailed introduction to marketing practice, there is also an option in Marketing.  

 In Semester 3 the International Marketing dissertation is the capstone course where students “deep-dive” into their chosen area of research.  Students will demonstrate their mastery of the subject area by developing new insight from analysis of valuable primary research.

MSc International Business Management with Finance is a conversion degree programme led by academics from Edinburgh Business School. It introduces the study of business to graduates and professionals from non-management backgrounds who wish to enhance their careers.

This degree introduces vital business and management knowledge to those with limited academic experience of the subject. It provides an opportunity to develop a set of versatile management skills in just one year of study. The modern management skills gained, coupled with specialist learning in the area of finance, will complement existing knowledge and prepare graduates for a career shift or management role.

Our MSc Translating programme is designed for those who want to work as professional translators or in the field of translating.

This programme's main focus is on translation and translation technologies. However, you can also choose from a broad range of optional courses in professionally relevant subjects to tailor your programme to your interests and professional needs, such as Subtitling, International Politics, Business Communication, Localisation & Technical Writing, or study a new language.

Our BSc Computer Systems course is designed to give you a solid foundation in computing, together with the necessary applied skills. What’s more, it’ll give you a range of professional skills to help you communicate clearly, work independently and co-operate effectively. In the later years of our BSc Computer Systems course, you’ll also have the option to specialise and graduate with a named degree in Games Programming (5Y6J).
