The Department of Law has a team of highly skilled academics, some of whom combine teaching with legal practice. This helps to ensure that the courses are constantly refreshed with the latest industry thinking and practice, and provides you with the opportunity to mix with people who can provide hands-on experience and insight into their area of legal work.

This course offers key skills in pharmaceutical analysis, including measurement, scientific practice, evaluation and interpretation of data. You will study recent trends in analytical science and techniques and be introduced to pharmaceutical technologies, such as formulations and clinical pharmacokinetics. Through your research project, you will develop valuable research skills. Past projects have examined areas such as determining caffeine and its metabolites in human serum samples using GC-MS, and synthesis and use of compounds as probes for biochemical reactions.

This course will enable you to gain a strong background in the theory of analytical and forensic techniques and how to apply them to complex problems such as those encountered at crime scenes. It emphasises the key skills required in this specialised area of science, including good measurement and scientific practice, sample collection and chain of custody, evaluation and interpretation of data, and constructing expert witness reports.

Kingston University has its own scene-of-crime house located on site, which is used to recreate crime scenes and enables you to put your investigative skills into practice. The property's garden is used by the forensic team's archaeologist for field investigations.

Lecturers on the course have wide experience in the forensics sector and many have worked either as forensic scientists or as expert witnesses. They are also actively engaged in forensic research, and are supported by visiting speakers from leading forensic consultancies.

This industry-accredited course is tailored to civil and/or structural engineers wishing to become senior managers in both consulting engineering and contracting organisations, and is ideal for graduate engineers starting their career in the construction industry.

The Structural Design and Construction Management Masters course successfully combines structural engineering with advanced construction management, which will enable you to perform at a managerial level for a consultant or contractor.

You will examine concrete technology, sustainable construction, earthquake engineering, steel and concrete building design, fire assessment, geo-environmental engineering and construction management. You will take part in practical work, group work, case studies and presentations. Experts at leading civil engineering and construction companies contribute to the course. For your dissertation, you may choose an industry-relevant project to research.

Taught by published authors, you'll gain a wide range of skills across creative and non-fiction genres. You'll examine how writing can be used to communicate in a range of contexts, with appropriate uses of style, register and form.

You'll take part in masterclasses by industry professionals and join the thriving community of our specialist Writers' Centre. An extended writing project will be on a subject of your choice. You'll also build a professional portfolio and work on real-life industry projects, giving you vital employment experience to prepare you for a career in writing.

On this course, you'll study how computers can be used to prevent and solve crime. You'll develop web technology programming skills and study specialised tools and operating system environments. You'll examine encryption algorithms, public-key cryptography, network security, endpoint security and digital forensics. Through research and development projects you'll be able to showcase your knowledge and skills to employers. Project themes include security and vulnerability analysis, mobile app security and cyber intelligence analysis.

Practical studies include ethical hacking (such as password cracking, vulnerability scanning, social engineering and system exploits) and Security Operations Centre (SOC) functions, such as threat intelligence, threat hunting, SIEMs and incident response.

This course is ideal if you're interested in film and creative industry careers beyond production, such as scriptwriting, journalism and reviewing, festival programming, museum and exhibit curation, and promotion and marketing. The course examines creative writing and film within historical, cultural and geographical contexts, rather than in isolation. You'll explore how writing and film are shaped by their surroundings. Through analysis of published writing, you'll consider language and style. In Year 3, the course culminates in a major research project, covering a topic of your choice. You'll also complete a creative writing dissertation.
