This course offers a cross-disciplinary insight into the changing landscape of the media industries from mass communication to the new digital age.

The course nurtures and builds on your individual experience as a media user or amateur content creator, but it also enhances your awareness and understanding of how media are shaping the world we live in today, and how humanity will evolve within Artificial Intelligence and environmental concerns.

The course offers a diverse curriculum covering media histories, media now, and future media.

Media studies have been described as "the defining subject of our age". So when you choose this Media and Communications MA, you will be developing your professional portfolio of media and communication projects. You'll explore different aspects of the media industries and professions such as strategic communication, media production, PR, advocacy, marketing and advertising, digital art, creative writing and so many other areas which speak to your individual interests and potential future career paths.

The aim of the User Experience Design MSc course is to equip you with the behavioural theory, design practice and technology know-how that is necessary for a career as interaction designer, usability engineer, user researcher, or head of user experience. It focuses upon the analysis, design, prototyping and evaluation of multimedia, multi-modal, and multi-platform user interfaces that are easy to use and support a great user experience.

Each taught module guides students through a UX project – to optimise an interaction, to innovate a digital lifestyle, to create a persuasive product, and to collaborate on the development of virtual reality. Each project provides opportunities to analyse, design, prototype and evaluate cutting-edge technologies, follow industry trends and apply contemporary theories. A final "capstone" project completes the student's portfolio.

This course was developed in consultation with our industry panel, which includes Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, DreamWorks and Samsung Design Europe. Kingston University is an active member of TIGA, the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) and supports the User Experience Professionals' Association (UXPA UK).

The philosophy of the Environmental Management MSc programmes centres on the need for new environmental professionals: people with a strong cross-disciplinary understanding of the societal, economic, and environmental challenges posed by the emerging sustainable environmental management agenda.

The course aims to provide you with the in-depth knowledge and the essential practical and evaluative skills needed to give leadership for low carbon, resource efficient, sustainable futures in diverse global contexts. It will provide a good basis for careers in local government, NGOs, major international companies, independent consultants, and in education (such as research and enterprise).

The final masters award title will be reflected by your chosen pathway:

• Environmental Management MSc – this core pathway explores the rationale behind the exploitation of natural environments. It provides you with detailed knowledge and understanding of the important relationships between sustainable environmental management and natural ecosystems and the value of adopting an integrated approach to studying both.
• Environmental Management (Energy) MSc – this pathway is timely, nationally and internationally relevant, given the world's energy needs, as well as the surrounding political debates regarding fossil fuels and increasingly, renewables, which form such an essential component of the world's existence.

On this practical course, you'll develop practical coaching skills as well as studying the science behind effective coaching, performance, leadership and sports analysis. You'll have access to sophisticated equipment to measure the physiological responses to exercise and analyse sports movements and skills.

Modules cover psychology, motivation, human physiology, anatomy, biomechanics and notational analysis. A project or dissertation on a selected topic will develop your independent learning skills.

Please note this course doesn't offer specific professional coaching qualifications but does provide the scientific knowledge to achieve qualification up to United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 3/4.

You'll study civil engineering subjects, such as structures, hydraulics, geotechnics, construction materials, mathematics and surveying. You'll also study the design and construction of sustainable infrastructures, focusing on water engineering, transport, highway and the energy sector.

You'll work in specialist laboratories, including concrete, hydraulics, materials, soils and structures, and experience real-life scenarios through site visits and field trips.

Practical work includes surveying, model-making, engineering drawing and computer-aided design. You'll also gain skills in project and business management.

You'll study key topics of international relevance, such as trade, criminal and human rights law. In our age of increasing globalisation, expertise in these areas will boost your employability both in the UK and internationally.

For an international legal career, this degree is ideal. It provides the knowledge and skills to enable you to progress to the vocational stage of legal training. You'll have the opportunity to spend a year studying abroad. If you are considering an international career, this is great to have on your CV.

This course is highly practical, with workshops and scenarios to develop your soft-skills and build your industry experience. You might lead mock trials or cross-examine witnesses and forensic experts at the Crown Court. Professional internships, in a law firm or in a law-related field, will enable you to gain the relevant work experience valued by employers.

This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain an understanding of processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacture and regulation of medicines. Through an independent research project, you will study an area of interest in depth. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

Fieldwork takes place in the UK and Europe*. Subjects include data collection, project management, social policy analysis, urban planning and design, environmental monitoring and management.

Teaching on the course will support your professional development. It often takes place with planning departments, environmental agencies, business support networks, community organisations and town centre management teams.
